Withg Ashcroft and Bush in charge, you can expect to see this kind of thing happening more and more often to "ordinary" people.  At least unless Kerry is elected.

why does this not surprise me ? A prosecutor wasting the court's time and taxpayer dollars over a misdemeanor warrant ? The motivation is simple. They're padding their stats so when they send in their budget proposals they can lump their "crap prosecutions" with their serious cases and make it look as if they are earning their pay. As ever, sunlight is the best disinfectant.

This is not a Bush or Ashcroft issue.  The warrant was in the data base, and they acted on the warrant.  This would still have happened under Clinton if a data base search turned up the warrant.

On at least two occasions, wildly mistyped information caused me problems with parking/speeding tickets.  What kind of loser clerks do they employ at courthouses anyway?  Chimps would be cheaper and less error prone!

It is reassuring however to know that if potential marshmellow fugitives are apprehended so effectively that terrorists must have no chance.  This is right up there with the wonderful work of the Office of Foreign Assets Control and everyone's favorite, the U.S. Patriot Act.

Human governance is an embarrassment.  I think its about time we finally surrender control over to intelligent and benevolent overseers.  Ideally, alien beings.  Robots perhaps.
I think succumbing to it will be very liberating in fact.  Besides, as I expect we will be reminded soon enough, resistance is futile.
