I bid goodbye to my fellow "secret society" friends and go back to family (not mine) for most of December. Now I have to see those that I see or talk to once a year. Fake Smile. Fake Laugh. Recall old times. Thank god there are some that I will not see less I do them bodily harm. Just because they are family does not mean they are your friends. KUMBYA....KUMBYA..

P.S. There isn't a single thing in your list, that a Diesel-charged egg-nog(or ten) and a viewing of CHRISTMAS VACATION won't fix, or at least numb one enough to prevent a dive off the roof of the family manor.

My family gatherings consist of laughter, fun, and a bunch of Canadians talking loudly over each other. You would think there are 50 people in one room, but usually no more than fifteen, lol.

All the noise drives me nuts and I have to go on walks every now and then. You can also never get a conversation past two minutes unless it's about football or business lol. But they're hilarious and easily distracted, lol.

Opposite to the OP, wish I were going home for Thanksgiving, but alas, I will wait until Christmas.

This time of year is the only time I wish I had a house full of crazy family members. I enjoy my friends but family is so much better. Even though I envy those with large families, I enjoy what I have with my son.
