I have recently notice that several very prominent players are hanging up their heels. Having lived in L.A. for a little while, I have noticed that other people are going into other ventures. Is this a trend due to the slow down in the economy?
Do you think that the economy is playing into this via the lack of funds or layoffs?
It seems that the economy here in SoCal is being hurt by the supposed strikes (that did not happen) and the merging of Corparate America with Hollywood, is this affecting your business?
post a few thoughts...:)

... and I for sure don't have a slow-down on business - I can't keep up with it!  And Silicon Valley (I live in Santa Cruz) has been hit really hard by the economic slump!  I have the same, if not more biz, since the dot.com crash.  So, I'm guessing the economy is not the reason the girls might have retired.  Like Forrest Gump's mom said: "it's jest my tyme..."  It's probably jest their time (not about age, about path...).

But, hey! how 'bout if I come visit you all the second week of August, since you've got fewer girls workin', all of a sudden?  Hmmmm?  XO Faye Desiree

Neverwuz,
Most of the ladies who "hang up their heels" put them right back on.  "Retiring" is always so funny to me.  I have met very few escorts who have retired and stayed that way, yet I can think of dozens who said they were retiring.  When you retire your done, that’s it, no more coming back when you need money or when you break up with your boyfriend or when your job doesn't work out.  Most of these ladies are taking a break, not retiring.

Retiring can actually help business.  If you say I am retiring at the end of the year/month, everyone is going to try to see you before you go.  There was a lady who did this twice (and then changed her mind) but boy did she get a lot of business from it.  Also if you go out with a bang by posting it on all the msg boards people will post how much they will miss you.  This way when you do come back gents will do a search for you and see your farewell post and think everyone loved you and think they better jump at the chance to see you.   I don't think all providers say they are going to quit to increase biz, but I don't think most are oblivious to it.

Ladies "retire" for many reasons but I don't think the economy has much to do with many of them.  I can only think of one lady who is talking about quitting because of the economy.  There are always slow times, and yes this happens to be one of them for some ladies...but not all.

So don't worry, your favorite provider may be retiring today but she will be back soon :-)

DD, I think you pretty well summed up the situation.  One other possibility also, I had a provider friend tell me she was going to retire all the time whenever she had a bad client, was stressed-out or just or not making enough money.  It was a coping mechanism, or safety valve that allowed her to continue when things got difficult.  Reminding herself that she could always just quit if things got too crazy usually was all she needed to re-group and continue. She's still working.
