Seems like this has been a known potential but no well known or wide spread attacks as of yet -- or still under wraps.

 
It does raise some interesting questions. First, I suspect whatever method is used in this attack could just as well be implemented into you charging plug you plug into a socket and then plug your USB cable into. The weakness, I assume, stems from the modern USB port allowing both power and data functions.

 
They never give much details but makes one wonder if perhaps wireless charging might be more secure for the highly security oriented here.
