Where did the term Hobbyist come from I always think a hobby entails glue paint and plastic

hobby is anything you are into
Anything that interests you
anything you collect.
Anything you spend alot of money on.
It sounds better than "johns "

because it is too important to be taken seriously.

Or whores.  I mean that in a nice way.

OK, I think one of us has been approaching this all wrong. Hmmm...no glue, paint and plastic?
What about tape, dye and rubber? can I use those?

If this "no glue, paint and plastic" thing is true, I am gonna have to rethink my entire approach to this...as well as rewrite a few fantasies.

Why are we called hobbiests and providers  when Johns and Prostitutes are more descriptive of what this is about.

Its a rather stupid term IMO.

It was a euphemism developed when the internet first met the escort industry.  It definitely wasn't used to describe sex-for-money before that.

Its development had to do partially with secrecy and partially with marketing, I think.  It was justified, by any estimate, the internet has completely altered the trade.  

One euphemism didn't survive, it seems.  I am glad that providers didn't get stuck with the name ASPs.  Adult Service Providers.  That euphemism was almost worse than the terms it was replacing.    

like most hobbies, we all need to occasionally "paint a pretty picture" of oneself, something always needs "screwing" in the house or auto shop, we all enjoy being "crafty" at times, we providers always need to "drill" it into you guys what to do (just kidding), some of us can get away with being "hammered" but not in front of the wife, some like to "two-step" around serious relationships, we're (providers) always "singing you praise", and best of all: unlike most hobbies using glue, the white stuff "stays in your mouth, not in your hands." Sorry couldn't resist that last T.V. blob. Wink!

IMO, "provider" almost sounds as bad as "whore" or "hooker", since it gives me the same generally negative image as those words do.   The term hasn't yet caught on as a full-blown synonym in everyday talk, so its underground meaning isn't universally known (yet).  I do chuckle under my breath when I hear talk of things like "insurance providers", though.

The ASP acronym also isn't fully universally known.  I don't object to its usage too much, because its meaning isn't well known, and it's handy to use as a "code" for communicating about it with those who do know what it means.  I do use it to name both file and e-mail folders on my computer for organizational purposes.  However, I wouldn't refer to a specific woman as an ASP.  My words of preference are "escort" or "companion".

I have the same feeling about using the word "hobby" as the original poster.  I think of a hobby as collecting coins or stamps or baseball cards.  Are we collecting pussy here?  The term does cover the activity, as it is something of recreation, which the majority of guys who participate are in it for.  It depends on each person's personal perspective.  I don't consider myself a "hobbyist" because I'm not in it for "recreation" or playing around on the side.  For me, it's more of a lifestyle, since it's the only way I'm able to obtain any physical attention from women.  I generally don't use the term when discussing the topic with friends or on discussion boards such as TER.

While I have a great time for the hour or two that I spend with a provider it is the memory of that delightful time that stays with me forever.
