Hey Ceep.  Always paranoid.  But still playing.  I'm still impressed you don't have to.  Thanks for the link.  I should've done that.  Been posting too furious lately elsewhere and forgot.

Too many questions...so few answers!

you suggest that he TYPE a search on how to find if there's one installed.  Thats asking him to shoot himself.

Great on supplying the link so he doesn't have to incriminate himself.

for a reason. Why would you leave any technology out where she can get to it, if you're contacting providers from it? Stupid.

I feel for you Mr LaBeef.  Cause I have a very strong suspicion that my S.O. installed a keylogger on my laptop one night when I was over-served at my local establishment.   She has been distantly suspicious for a long time.

I am vigilant about hiding / locking my cell and laptop, but I think I really stepped in it one night, and she found the opportunity she was waiting for.  Problem is, as London states; you can't find it by simply looking.........it's deeply buried.  I've become concerned because she just so happens to randomly mention certain things that I may have googled (coincidental,...I think not); and it feels like someone other than myself has been in and out of email accounts, online bank accounts, and my cell provider account.

This is scary shit and what makes it worse is that I have a rather expensive laptop and would rather not just dump it for a brand new one (I can hear the remarks coming already).  It works on cellphones too.  UGGH !

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this.  Google the product if you feel that I'm overstating the severity of the problem.

Some anti-malware programs like Spybot Search and Destroy, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will detect some key-loggers.  These are free downloads and depending on how sophisticated a program was installed.  If she is not a computer tech and she did it herself, these may find it.  There is also a free download called KL-Detector v1.3.  You can google that also.  The developer of this program also has a software called "I Hate Keyloggers"  which blocks key-loggers from recording keystrokes, which may be handy if other scans don't find anything and you are still concerned.  Hope this helps!   Oh, BTW, the scans should be done in Safe Mode for best result.

Yeah so I don't necessarily think she does.  But I'm just playing it careful.  Trying to stay one step ahead.

To load without downloading from the iTune store then, you will see an Icon.

PC's on the other hand pretty easy. But, you can look at the tasks that are running and figure what is running and go from there.

Another easier solution is not to give admin privileges to anyone, and prevent them from installing or changing any Application. They will be able to use it, but will not be able to install or change anything. You shouldn't be running/ operating your PC under Admin privileges anyway.

I just use the smart phone.  Was wondering if I'd be able to detect something in the way it functions.  No problems now.

The wife's not tech savvy nor acting suspicious.  Just a curiosity of mine.  Don't assume because I ask about something it's a reflection of what's going on in my life.

You don't just wake up one day and start thinking, "Gee, wonder if my actions are leaving a trail." You start being paranoid about your phone and pc having spyware, something's up.

For a Windows based computer, simply use the System Restore feature.  Choose a date prior to the date of your suspected lapse.  This will reset the Registry.  The Webwatcher software and any other software installed after the restore date you choose will no longer work.  Any legitimate software that you may have installed will need to be reinstalled.  To further clean, you can use a Registry cleaner like CCleaner (free download) to find and remove any remaining registry entries that no longer point to functioning software.  If you are more tech savy, or have a friend who is, you can configure your firewall to block traffic on port 8208.  This is the port used by webwatcher to transmit collected data to the website where it is monitored.  Of course if you do these things, she will no longer get info from your computer, but she will know that you are on to her!

Lastly, if you are uncomfortable performing these procedures, then just take your computer to a local computer repair shop.  Any good tech should be able to clean it for you!

You did type "I just want to be one step ahead of her" indicating that you are in fact THINKING AHEAD. Duh...

If your devices were NOT where she could get to them, there would be NO NEED to worry about spyware being installed.

If your SO has already read your hobby phone, laptop, etc. yer screwed.

+1 CCleaner and setting up all PCs with guest accounts. Admin is for you only.
+100 having a cheap netbook and phone with web capability kept out of your SO's reach. PW protect them -- even better is to remove the batteries and make them look like throwaways you are keeping for parts/backup.

Even after using a hobby phone, learn to wipe searches, cache, on phone data.

Most don't realize you can bring up a browser on the phone and even if you cleared history - autocomplete will pop up. If you type Theer..., the browser will helpfully supply theeroticreview as an option.

GoogleMaps or any map program and GPS? All tracked on your phone unless you know how to delete them completely.

Google saves everything so install a browser like Maxthon or Dolpin and do not keep it on your home screen AND set it to private mode always. When you exit, nothing to delete.

Best is to not have to sneak around at all but that's not the reality for most married peeps here.

Be paranoid, learn more than you'd ever want to know about security.
