I got some disturbing phone calls tonight, allegedly from local providers my way.  It was 4 messages, all very nasty, racial, bigot comments.  I am part Asian so it mostly directly toward my Chinese side.

I am a little flattered by the fact that she went out of her way to pick up the phone and call me and put 10minutes into finding all my little flaws.  She obviously called from a private number so she didn't want to be found out.  So any tips from you guys?  She threatened to hunt me down and kill me.  So should I be worried?

Making threats over the phone is a CRIME. Yeah, you should contact the police. Log the stuff. Make sure you have written records of exactly what she said. Make sure the police knows about it. Even if she called from a private number, they can find out. The phone company gets in on it, and it's not that difficult to suss out the origination of the call. Make her pay for her stupidity!

When I was married my wife kept getting those silent -- or perhaps "heavy breathing" -- phone calls. The phone company suggested that she say "I'm glad that you called, because I had the line traced." At the the next call, she could barely finish the first 5 words before that guy hung up. You might want to try that. But then, in your case it involves the threat of violence, so you might want to call the police.

There are some very naughty, as well as nice, people in this business. Keep a record of the phone call, make a statement to the police so they can trace the call, and generally watch your back. I had to do this once and the police traced the call to someone from this board. Hmmm!

At the moment, I am letting it slide, I did log the calls and recorded them.  I just learned from a reliable source that they used to harrass a few ladies, and wanted to drive them out of the business because they were threatened by their prescence.  They didn't do any harm.  I just take it as a compliment for now.  that they would go out of their way to mess with me.

the net, cell phones, telecom changes all could be so much to the good.... and yet, some feel that they provide the annonymity with which they can lash out at others....  that is so sad....

But then again, it is fortunate that I can hide behind the electrons.... for I am green you see!

Often people make these comments for whatever reason, and do not mean them, but the simple fact is, that you, cannot assess the intent of an annonomyous caller.  would that scare big ole me!? ya betcha, it is just way too easy to take an opportunity.

Heed ALL the suggestions, and I would add one, for the time being, always let someone know where you are going, and when you will return.  Heck, I might even go so far as to say you may set up a call to system... you will call a number every x hour, or you willbe reported missing.... but until this person stops... or catches themselves... you have to take it seriously...  this is stupid in this day and age.

I am even more concerned that there has been a number of such calls from one specific area.

I'd definitely take it serious but try to ignore it as much as you can. Above all try to stay alert and safe!

Harassment and threats are crimes, and police will go after those first.

Yes, take the advice given by others here.  If it goes too far, don't be afraid to report it.  I might also help to report it your phone company.  If they look into it and it crosses state lines, then it becomes a matter of Federal investigation.

I let my voice mail fill up. I don't answer unknown numbers. All thoes nasty little phone calls came to a stop!!!

Like I said, I can't go to my local police because I don't provide where I live.  My family is too well known around here.

They have stopped calling since that night.  I don't want to add fuel to the fire.  Thanks again!
