ISO Best VPN Software or App to Hide IP Address

If this belongs on the newbie board, please LMK.

A friend asked me this question and I could think of only two solutions for her, neither of which seems ideal on laptops/PCs as well as iPhones/iPads. If you have suggestions for something easy to use and effective at blocking or masking your IP address, please post.

Hidemyass -
This is neither software nor an app, its a service available for laptops/PCs and iPhones/iPads. It's harder to use on iPhone/iPad because it's not an app, but uses the built-in VPN on iOS. In my experience it can cut off unexpectedly without reconnecting which exposes your true IP address. I have not tried it on a laptop or PC.

HotSpotShield -
This one I used on iPhone/iPad from Apple's App Store. I liked that it does an auto restart or reconnect if it loses a connection. But it was somewhat buggy when I used it over a year ago. Perhaps it's improved. There is also a version for laptops and PCs.

It's n an easy to use VPN software and it's free.
I have the paid version for unlimited bandwidth and so far it's great.
Download it and give it a try.

hide IP addresses. It establishes a virtual encrypted tunnel between a particular network and host across public networks in essence virtualizing a connection as if you were local to the private network in question.

There are proxy services out there which can provide such functionality up to a point but there is always a trail. Always.

The paranoia isn't worth the money.

If you want to be completely impervious you need to purchase multiple devices in bulk, use and lose,, and access whatever it is you deem sensitive via free wifi networks. That way you're still randomizing IP addresses as per whatever is available in the DHCP pool in question.

Nevertheless there will always be a unique physical MAC address associated with any device, and yes, there are utilities you can use to "mask," that, but the bottom line is, there are forensic utilities which will even uncover that.

So...Go the anon, disposable route, which works well for superspys and terrorists, or...ratchet down the paranoia and be smart

This program will not show your ip address on the connection end.
I have a choice of getting to their servers and on the other side I am using one of their ips.
I have tested quite a number of times ;)

and if I threw a protocol analyzer on the pipe I'd show you otherwise. Same with viewing router connection logs.

Besides, both VPN and Proxy server must keep track of the IP Address to work Neither are designed to hide IP addresses. Not possible to hide an IP address since it is used to get to where you need to, change it along the way, yes. Complete hiding is not possible.

Save your $.

You can, however, subscribe to a VPN service outside of US Jurisdiction and there are ones with the policy of truncating IP logs. Using TOR will simply increase the number of hurdles LE would have to jump to get you, is very slow, and mess it up for the people that really needs them in the information-restricted nations. Plus, it will get NSA's attention.

For laptops/PCs either of the following:

Tor browser: https://www.torproject.org/

Tails OS: https://tails.boum.org/ (can run this from a USB or as a virtual machine)

Pat J

If you become TOR host, you become vulnerable. Both are just proxy servers provided by numerous users. Similar in concept to Bit Torrent.

Orbot + Firefox for Android. bing or google it
