I have recently been reading accounts of impoverished and gullible young women (children) from Russia, Eastern Europe and the East being conned with offers of employment to come to Western countries only to find themselves upon arrival assaulted, enslaved and working in brothels under lock and key and under horrendous conditions eg in the US, Canada and England (and I am sure many other countries).
Does anybody on this board have any knowledge or information about this?

Recently read an article in the local rag about abuse of illegal migran farm workers in Florida. Apparently, some young women are forcefully held captive (as you indicate above) to serve as prostitutes to the migrants. The sessions are called "21s". Twenty dollars for sex and a dollar for a condom.

No but I would not support or condone it if I found it. Being a provider by choice is far different from being forced to do it.
So I became acquainted with a few of the Korean Girls and then asked them if they worked independently or for someone and whether they get to keep the tip or if they had to give it to someone.
The few that I spoke with suggested to me that they had a choice about where they worked and when. I got the feeling that they were independent to a large degree. A couple of them were actually married to American dudes, had kids that were American citizens.
I was satisfied I wasn't supporting some sort of slavery thing.

I believe for the most part it is an attempt to portray prostitution in a bad light. Much the way child pornography is used to make porn seem bad. I don't say that it does not exist, however I believe that the actual percentage of enslaved prostitutes is far less than 1% of all the working providers.
The anti-prostitution evangelists need this approach to attack the commercial sex world because they can no longer get media attention by opposing it head on.
For many young women with very little education in Eastern Europe and Russian, prostitution has enabled them to leave their homeland and find a new life that is vastly better than what they had back home.
I agree that any unpleasant fact about a profession, a culture, or a nation can be exploited well beyond it's importance. But in this case I think you need to trade in the rose colored glasses for some clear ones.

I would not even have responded to this again if you had qualified the statement... such as, less than 1% of the providers IN SEATTLE. That would sound reasonable. Maybe even if you said less than 1% in the US. Perhaps? So... hm, is "less than 1%" an acceptable number? How many children is that?
Now let's expand beyond the children - how would those #'s be affected if you add in the poverty stricken and drug addicted women who work (and are kept with threat of violence) with pimps? Please recognize that for women who are in prostitution out of desperation, and those who begin these careers in violent and unstable countries (most countries), that 1% is a rediculously low number.
I don't want to be mistaken. I am 100% against laws written against CONSENSUAL crimes. I believe that prostitution can be a fabulously rewarding profession (on many levels) for those who enjoy the work. As someone whose spirit mourns that the Goddess Temples were ever desecrated...

Bonded labor is a form of slavery that is legal and accepted (and horribly abused) in many countries - and often enforced by the police, if not the local army.
Sure, maybe most of these individuals are digging oil pipelines, making your tennis shoes, or mining the raw materials that are used in uncountable products that are in our homes... as opposed to prostitution...
but there are TOO MANY, and there are TOO MANY who are forced into prostitution (whatever the number is).

Ukraine's "Natasha trade": modern-day slavery and organized crime

The Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (OMCTP), established within the U.S. State Department in October 2001, estimated in its second annual report released in June that between 700,000 and 4 million women, men and children have been "bought, sold, transported and held against their will in slave-like conditions." Although this figure includes forced labor, the majority of these slaves are sex slaves.
Poor socioeconomic prospects in their own countries are the main reason so many women migrate abroad from post-Communist Europe. Between 60 and 70 percent of the unemployed in Russia and Ukraine are women, who tend to be paid less than men and are usually the first to be dismissed from jobs.
The sex-slave trade, which has been given the name the "Natasha trade," is more than a human story of modern-day slavery. It generates huge profits for organized crime - some $83 million a month in Italy alone. It also breeds corruption among state officials involved in collusion in the trade, and destroys morale among peacekeepers who are accused of complicity in, and use of the sex slave trade, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosova. Many sex slaves are underage, orphans, the children of divorced marriages, or runaways fleeing abusive parents.
The sex trade also breeds violence and murder. Only "a tiny percent of those 'sold' manage to return home alive," a Dnipropetrovsk prosecutor's office investigator said. With their passports confiscated, the sex slaves have no form of identification, are sold on to different clients, subjected to torture, and deprived of food and sleep. But, if they become physically ill and mentally traumatized, they are no longer of any use to their traffickers.
The sex trade also contributes to the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Some sex slaves turn to, or are given, drugs to keep them pliant, thereby increasing the number of drug users. Drug users, in turn, are a major source of the spread of AIDS because they often share needles. Sex slaves who have managed to escape and return home are also a source of sexually transmitted diseases as they were often raped and forced to have sex without protection.
The trade also spreads AIDS in the countries where the sex slaves are held against their will. Turkish officials and the media have blamed "Natashas" for the rising incidence of AIDS in that country. The reluctance of rural Turkish men to use condoms means they often pass on sexually transmitted diseases to their wives.
The AIDS epidemic is growing faster in the former USSR than anywhere else in the world, and the region has become second only to Africa with 250,000 persons infected last year alone. Although Ukraine has the highest rate of AIDS infection in post-Communist Europe, with 1 percent of the adult population estimated to have HIV, this was ignored until November 2000, when a presidential decree adopted a three-year program.
A recent BBC news report described the Ukrainian port of Odesa as the "AIDS capital of Europe," and AIDS is developing in Ukraine as fast as in Africa. Dr. Aleksandr Sidiachenko, head of prevention and treatment of infectious diseases for the Odesa Oblast health authority, admitted that "We are witnessing the beginning of the AIDS epidemic [in Ukraine]."
Of the 27 post-Communist countries, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova and Romania are the main source of sex slaves. The second OMCTP annual report found that in Moldova, new amendments to the Criminal Code that were adopted in April have yet to lead to any convictions. Similar amendments imposing penalties for human trafficking went into effect in Ukraine in September 2001. Both countries are classified as "Tier 2" by the OMCTP, meaning they have begun to attempt to deal with the problem of trafficking of women. Meanwhile, in Russia, there still is no legislation against sex-slave trafficking and the country "is not making significant efforts to" undertake any action. Therefore, Russia is classified as "Tier 3" by the OMCTP.
The transit countries for the trafficked women are Albania and the former Yugoslavia. The major destinations for the "Natasha trade" are Germany, Italy (half of its 50,000 prostitutes are East Europeans), Turkey, Israel, the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
In Israel, Amnesty International reported that 10,000 women from the former USSR became sex slaves in the last decade and until recently the authorities were reluctant to prosecute those involved. In August 2000 four Ukrainian sex slaves died in a brothel in Tel Aviv after an arsonist, suspected of being from an extremist ultra-Orthodox Jewish sect, set it ablaze. Between 100,000 and 150,000 women are sold as mail-order brides to Israel each year, an industry that generates $17 billion annually. Some of these women end up as sex slaves.
Ukraine not only has the highest rate of AIDS infection in Europe, it has eclipsed Latin America as the leading source of trafficked women. The August 14 edition of the Ukrainian parliamentary newspaper Holos Ukrainy reported on the break-up of a gang that had sent women to the United Arab Emirates and had been paid $2,000 for each girl. In the last three years 125 criminal cases have been instituted in Ukraine against persons accused of the "unlawful employment of Ukrainian citizens abroad."
According to Holos Ukrainy, 120,000 young Ukrainian women were trafficked last year alone - and a total of nearly half a million in recent years. The International Organization for Migration estimates a figure of 1 million Ukrainians abroad who are in danger of being forced into becoming sex slaves. In the brothels of Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Greece, and Spain, an average of 10 percent of the women are from Ukraine. In the Netherlands an estimated one-third of the prostitutes are believed to be from Ukraine, while in Greece the term "waitress" has become synonymous for a Ukrainian woman engaged in prostitution, either voluntarily or as a sex slave.

to Turn the Tide Against Human Trafficking

Nina could use a few allies.
At 19 years old, the European woman was recruited to work as a waitress but was raped, beaten, drugged and forced into a life of prostitution. During a police raid, Nina was taken into custody and agreed to be a witness against her tormentors. But her life was threatened again after one of the police officers gave away her location. She has since fled to another country and assumed an anonymous identity.
For years, the international community has stayed relatively silent about the practice of human trafficking. But this past September Nina and hundreds of thousands of victims like her were given a reason for hope when a powerful ally stepped into the breach.

► 800,000-900,000 people worldwide are illegally transported across borders each year.
► The trafficking industry generates almost $7 billion in annual revenue and has strong ties to organized crime.
►The buying, selling and involuntary transportation of people is particularly acute in impoverished regions and in countries where the rule of law has broken down.

In his September address to the United Nations, President Bush called upon world leaders to end what he termed a modern day slave trade.
In April 2000, a few trafficking survivors who were illegally transported into the country told their stories before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Only first names were used in the testimony for purposes of protection.
Six years ago Maria, a resident of Veracruz, Mexico was approached by an acquaintance about working in the U.S for a restaurant. The chance to earn more money for her daughter and other family members was too enticing to turn down. After she was transported to a Texas safe house, she was moved to Florida where she was forced to work as a prostitute.
Maria and three other women worked in a trailer turned brothel where armed men would sell tickets to willing customers. The women girls were moved to a different trailer every 15 days where they were forced to serve anywhere from 32-35 clients a day. If they refused, they were brutally beaten and raped.
Maria's enslavement finally ended when the FBI and other law enforcement agencies raided the brothel.
Traffickers often advertise bogus job offers as a way of luring their victims into the slave trade. They also entice their subjects with promises of marriage in a foreign country. In many instances the traffickers resort to threats and physical violence to coerce the most vulnerable, usually woman and children.
Olga, from Siberia, Russia was lured into the slave trade five years ago by a female acquaintance. She was promised worked as a housemaid in Israel but was instead sold to an Israeli man for $10,000. She was forced into prostitution and re-sold to an operation in Palestine.
Because she was often uncooperative, she was given a drug she later learned was "Ecstasy." Eventually she was transported back to Israel where she began to learn enough of the Jewish language to communicate details of her ordeal. In May 1999, Olga was deported back to Russia after police raided the brothel where she was held.
In 2000, Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) began the fight in Congress against trafficking after representatives from a Ukrainian support group for sex trade victims asked him for help. The group, called LaStrada, asked the congressman to help Ukrainian women who were transported to Montenegro and forced to work in brothels. After Rep. Smith contacted Montenegro's prime minister the brothel was raided and women were freed.
Later that same year, Rep. Smith authored the Trafficking Victims Protection (TVP) Act which increased penalties against traffickers and enhanced protections for victim.
Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) and the late Sen. Paul Wellstone (D-Minn) were both enthusiastic backers.
Rep. Smith recently praised President Bush for focusing on the sex-trafficking epidemic, and highlighted the pogress finally being made by reluctant foreign governments.
"On the international front, my law has prodded and moved other nations - many of whom had horrific records on trafficking - to take concrete actions to more aggressively prosecute trafficking rings."
In his speech President Bush targeted both the operators and patrons of the global sex trade.
"The victims of sex trade see little of life before they see the very worst of life - an underground of brutality and lonely fear," the president said. "Those who patronize this industry debase themselves and deepen the misery of others. And governments that tolerate this trade are tolerating a form of slavery."
In April President Bush signed the Protect Act into law making it a crime for any person to enter the country with the intent to of participate in the sex tourism industry. Americans to traveling abroad with the same intent could also be prosecuted. Violators face up to 30 years in prison.
There are some indications U.S. pressure is beginning to yield dividends. South Korea, for example, moved to avoid sanctions by shutting down over 600 brothels.
The U.S. government is also spending $50 million a year to support organizations working to free slaves. As a result their often lonely crusade may begin to get the attention it deserves.
In a recent interview, a spokesperson for Sen. Sam Brownback said the president's speech is likely to spur additional legislative action.
"Sen. Brownback was very pleased with the president's speech and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of the time the president spent on the topic," she said. "The crisis has been overlooked in the past.
Certainly, September 11 and the foreign policy challenges since then have overshadowed other priorities. But trafficking issue is finally coming to light. The sad reality here is international slavery still exists."
Sen. Brownback will continue to pursue reforms designed to stamp out human trafficking. He is currently pursuing a modification that would give a more detailed description of each countries anti-trafficking efforts.
In Sept. Rep. Smith introduced the 2003 TVP reauthorization bill which will provide more than $100 million in new funding to prosecute violators and assist victims. Rep. Smith's bill will also add Human trafficking to the list racketeering offenses covered under federal law, enabling trafficking victims to sue their captors in U.S. court.
Rep. Smith believes the president's vocal denunciation of trafficking could help to turn the tide against a brutal practice that victimizes almost a million people each year.
But for trafficking victims like Nina, Olga and Maria, the changes can't come soon enough.

Sex slavery thriving in Holy Land

Christina, an 18-year-old university student from Moldova, has been bought and sold so many times she has lost count.
Christina, who declined to give her real name, studied classics and anthropology and played basketball as a hobby before she was lured from a rural town in one of Europe's poorest countries to sex slavery in Israel.
She is not alone.
Hundreds of thousands of 'Christinas' have been bought like merchandise, beaten, raped and chained in Western brothels in a 21st century form of slavery.
Christina received top marks in her anthropology studies but couldn't scrape together enough money to pay for photocopies, let alone buy textbooks.
Her dire economic situation made her fair game for women hired by criminal gangs to lure young, naive girls from Moldova and other financially-strapped Eastern European countries into prostitution with promises of large sums of money.
"I never thought I would actually have to do it," Christina said in bewilderment. "I thought once I arrived I would find a way to escape and find other work, as a waitress or something."
Christina was flown to Egypt where along with 20 other Moldovan and Russian women aged between about 18 and 24, she was escorted across the Sinai desert into southern Israel by a Bedouin smuggler.
They walked over dunes, eventually crawling under a barbed-wire border fence in the middle of the night.
Rolls of money changed hands between the Bedouin and the Russian-speaking men who bought the women. Christina doesn't know how much they paid, but the market price for a woman like her in Israel is around $8,000.
Frightened, an illegal alien, unfamiliar with Hebrew or Israeli geography, Christina had no real hope of escaping.
Instead she was taken to a brothel in northern Israel where she was forced to have sex with around 15 men every day, raped, beaten and threatened with death if she ran away.
Eventually she did and is now a witness in a court case against the pimp who bought and mistreated her under a new Israeli law that makes human trafficking punishable by up to 16 years in prison.
"It's very easy. You just put them on a plane, walk them through the desert and you have slaves," said lawyer Nomi Levenkron, who represents women like Christina who are locked in a special wing of the Neve Tirza prison near Tel Aviv while they wait to testify or to be deported for entering Israel illegally.
Sex slavery, or white slavery as it was called in the 19th century, is almost as old as prostitution itself. But it has had a sudden resurgence since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 devastated many eastern European economies.
Women who earn around $20 a month in Moldova are promised $1,000 a month abroad to work as prostitutes. It is a tempting offer for young women with bleak futures in their home countries or burdened with supporting a large family.
Sometimes the women don't know they are being sent to work as prostitutes and are told they will be waitresses or secretaries. Others are simply kidnapped.
Almost always they are trafficked by the local Mafia, frequently on a forged passport and threatened that if they don't behave, their family back home will suffer the consequences.

About your accusations that I imply that the Jewish people have control over our media, it is true. Without a doubt they are controlling what we are allowed to hear. They participate in it, but they are far too small a portion of the Russian populace and especially, the nation's power structure to control it. As far as sex trade slavery, this is happenning from ALL the formerly communist countries into more affluent western nations. Many, if not more of them are being sent to the Netherlands, and Germany, and other affluent nations, including the U.S. (Check the slew of blonde agency girls in Southern California and you are about 50% likely to find a soviet bloc immigrant who speaks little English).

It is very hypocritical of the jewish community to constantly badger and remind us about slavery. Yet it is funny that there are no laws in Israel banning slavery, it is OK to have slaves in Israel. White women slaves to be exact. There are also no prostitution laws.

I don't know a whole heck of a lot about Russian or Jewish history unfortunately... I really need to do some research on all of this myself. But my grandparents came from Russia (or the Ukraine, Kiev, whichever you prefer) in the teen's because they were scared of the persecution of the Jews which was taking place there. So I'm curious as to how things have suddenly changed so that the Jews are *controlling* the Russian Mafia. Hmmmmm!
I spoke with a friend recently who is from the Ukraine. Now this was before I was in the 'biz, this was a guy I was sleeping with... so he had a vested interest in being nice to me. When he spoke to me of Kiev and how it has been both Russian and Ukrainian at different times in history, I asked... so am I Ukrainian then? He said... "No. You're Jewish."

One more thing sweetie, please don't focus so much on the "jews running the russian mafia comment".
Instead focus on the proof that has been provided that Israel is heavily involved in an illegal slave trade involving russian women. That is the issue. Eventually you will be able to trace the involvment that certain jews are in the R mafia.
