Screening through employment

I've always wondered about those who choose to screen someone by checking their employment. That seems high risk for the guy. These days with technology, lots of things are discoverable. Not just someone calling your receptionist and saying, "Hi, this is Desiree for Bustyescorts.com, is John Smith there?"  My company has a log file that comes in from the telecom provider showing all in\outbound calls and to what extension. They give us that for allocation costs and charging customers. At my old job, my boss had our department admin look up phone numbers that were unusual, because he was just like that. And the admin would tell me that she would google numbers she didn't recognize.  I don't believe that was the only company that does stuff like that.

Anyhow, even if a lady calls and plays it cool, if she calls from a number that can be googled back to her provider website, that is potentially bad. Even if the number is blocked, not all companies accept blocked calls.  Also, my current employer has integrated voice mail which means that voicemail comes through outlook, and gets saved on that server.

Then there's email. I still think there are ladies out there who would send an email to a work address from [email protected]. All company email gets backed up for 2 years, the rest goes to storage for 7.

I guess what I'm getting at, other than complaining, is there is no anonymity when you contact a corporation, particularly a large one. Are ladies aware of this? I understand why a lady wants to verify work employment for her safety, but to repeat, it is a huge exposure for the guy. The only way I could imagine it would be modestly safe is if the lady called from an un-googleable number and email address.

...verifying through employment this way. It is not my preferred method. It's actually the least preferred. Too much comes along with exchanging RL info on EITHER end. But, I have verified gentlemen this way. First of all, I don't advertise with or link my phone number in any way to providing. Nothing against ladies who do, it's just my personal choice to not do so myself. I also have a separate email acct set up just for the purpose of employment verification. It's a bs account with a computer generated email address and a random name. Neither my phone or email can be linked back to anything that has to do with my work.

Home phone numbers can easily be "reversed" on certain Internet sites (you put in the ten digits and get back the name and address of the user). However, I've noticed that those sites reject a cell phone number (i.e., they don't identify that number's user definitively).

I've seen ads by sites which claim that FOR A FEE they'll reverse a cell phone number. I'm too cheap to have tried such a tactic, but I wonder if anyone has? If such tactics do work, doesn't that put callers (with ordinary cell phone numbers that come up on caller ID) at some risk of being identified?

Your risk is more along the lines of your cell phone provider, passing caller id info to the receiver. I get caller id info on cell phones (real names) on my home caller id.

Those sites are scams usually, if you have a tracphone, they can't find out anything. If you have a "real" cell phone account, ATT\Verizon\Sprint, they will try to scam the cell phone provider into telling them the owner of the account. For instance, the scammer will call up Sprint and say they hadn't been getting their bill. What address is Sprint mailing it to? Someone at Sprint customer service may be dumb enough to tell them. Technically, it's illegal, but they do it anyway.  There was an article about this several years ago on CNN or MSNBC.

US Cellular does not do this. I had someone try it on my number multiple times, over a period of a year... it comes back to "Nikki" and nothing else, lol. Some cell phone companies WILL sell your info to these data-bases though.

with the numbers portability act a cell phone can become a home phone and vissa versa, also you can take it to any carrier, which I hae done and you can also change you cell number with in the carrier, but everything is for sale and I mean everything

I always use an unrelated number when calling to verify employment. Mostly it's just for my protection, just in case someone is trying to fake their way through screening. It makes it a little harder on them when they don't know when, or from what number the call will be coming from. I also certainly don't say that I'm an escort calling, I'll pretend to be someone that would normally be calling for someone in his occupation.

I do not use employment as a way to verify. I am not comfortable doing that. I fear that even if I am very careful and watch my step, somehow he would get found out so I just do not take that chance.

I dont think the employment verification is really that beneficial for providers or hobbiest.

hooker persona. I have several numbers and NONE of them trace back to London Rayne...even the one I give to clients. It's not that complicated to remain discreet when checking employment, but if you're not comfortable providing that info. there are plenty of ladies who only require references. For the ladies who do demand all of your info. most are professional enough not to get anyone in trouble.

... no number is not traceable back to London Rayne? That's it's your "provider" name, not your REAL name.

Any company who have a top line IT department can and will trace any phone number, cell or land line. The only numbers that cannot be traced (at least not at this time) are numbers from Skype and Google phone. Don't hold your breath on that. The lastest is that a few hackers are working on ways to trace those calls as well.

I don't think anyone is questioning that any number can be traced. It's more a question of who that number comes back to. Most prepaid cell phones don't require any ID, or even a mailing address. I have three numbers I use for business, with three different carriers, all under different names, none of which are my real name.

so NO, it will NOT trace back to my hooker persona. It will trace back to ther person whose name I have it in, that happens to be in a legal profession. I also have two google voice numbers that will only trace back to an email...again, random person not associated with escort services. I have not had a number on the web since 08 and even then, I would never use that to call some guy's work.

I'd love to hear how any IT department is going to trace my prepaid cell that I bought at Walmart with cash back to me. Seems like your knowledge of technology that has been around for years is sorely lacking for such an expert. Could this be why you're unemployed?

No one has time to go through the phone bills. Indeed company’s do get a report on phone usage but keep in mind that local calls doesn’t cost additional. Long distance may be. a

another interesting tie bit for you, incoming calls doesn’t cost money unless your company is using mobile phones and the call is coming to an AT&T phone from a Verizon. Call from an AT&T phone to another AT&T phone doesn’t count for minutes.

Repeat, it is huge exposure for a dumb guy who doesn’t know how the phone works and happens to work for a useless boss whose major concern is who is calling who and has jerk for boss who makes his/her admin Google numbers not known to him. What the fuck is he, White pages and yellow pages combined?

Now you don’t have to wonder. One wonders when one doesn’t think properly.

Large telecom providers give detailed info to large companies. Each extension has a log file showing all in bound and out bound calls, if there is a fee, it shows up in the cost column, if there is no fee, 0 shows up in the cost column. Each extension is assigned to an employee and a department number. A report goes to the head of the department for each extension in that department. The dept admin goes through it and picks off what calls get billed to clients. Those that do not get billed to clients get charged back to the department. And yes Virginia, there are some dickhead bosses out there who want to know what calls they are paying for if they do not get billed to clients and make the department admin google it. And bosses and admins google local numbers that have no cost to the company because they want to know if you are making too many personal calls instead of working. Or maybe they do it because they are just plain nosy ....

That is life in corporate america. I know exactly how it works.

He showed up, and she was nowhere what she said she was.  He said as much, left, and didn't pay.  She called his work and told the receptionist she was a hooker and described him and said he just stiffed her on money.

The company was small.  Word got out.  He kept his job, but things were pretty uncomfortable after that.

Crazy,

All the more reason that I advocate NOT to give out employment information.

If that prevents me for seeing certain providers, so be it.

to give out REAL employment information.

Just in case that slipped your mind!

I am self employed so the point is moot on this issue. I have no intention of telling anyone about my place of employment if I was working for someone else and have passed over those providers that require that. I like to think that we belong to TER to make appointments easier with less hassle and it has worked for me. This is a good site to clear up uncertainties and contacting proven providers or reviewers is not that difficult. gf60
