The recent post by a provider re what to tell her children makes me wonder about another aspect of the escort service business:  How do providers protect against family members, friends & acquaintances from their non-escort life(etc) stumbling across their websites or (egads!) showing up for an appt?

And the inevitable related question: Have hobbiests ever made an appt with a provider only to find that person is a family member, friend, work colleague, employee (you get the drift!)?

This is one of those things you hear about occasionally... a girl's father shows up at her incall, or the next-door neighbor. The stuff of nightmares. I knew a stripper whose entire male high-school class (on their 5 year reunion) came into her club... she was pretty upset.

Some providers I know will only work far away from home, and that is the only insurance agaisnt something like this happening... far away meaning in a city where you have no roots, no connections. One provider friend of mine literally treats the job as an air commute (like a consultant on a job might) flying to her job site for a couple of weeks, then back home a wek or two with no working (maybe works ion her website or something safe.)

I guess extreme screening would work as well, but some clients lie in the screening and if "dad" is one of those clients, it might not catch him. Maybe have them fax a copy of their driver' license?

But the only sure way is do it far from home.

1.  I don't work where I live; I work an hour away from where I live.

2.  Oy vay... the husband of a good friend of mine tried to make an appointment with me, clearly not knowing who my alter ego was.  Fortunately, through our email correspondence, I figured out who he was and backed out.  That would have been heinous.

Love,
Anne

...and always helpful to have first and last name before meeting with someone.

Well, to make sure that no one stumbles on my website at my house, I clear out my cookies section everyday.
I did have someone contact me for an appointment and swore he knew me. Well before we met we talked and we saw each other at a  funeral before. He wasn't 100% sure because at the funeral I was wearing a suit and couldn't see all the tattoos. What I did tell him was that since he was married and he knew what I did, lets not see each other and please keep it quiet..he did and so did I.
If it happens again, oh well. Its life and in this business we run risks all the time.

The late Kara Mia of Maryland had to take down her site after non-business related aquaintance found it.  She also changed her name and no longer has a site.

My former SO was a former PS/provider.  Someone, one of her relatives found her website, and printed the pages off, then sent them to her family.

How's that for really trying to send someone over the edge? To this day I would still like to find out who it was and have a very, very serious conversation with them.

Ive had MANY close calls (an ex boyfriend, the brother of an ex boyfriend, guys I've met through my other 'normal' part time job and former workplace have all made inquiries), if I didn't screen like I do,it would have lead to some ackward moments.
My family knows what I do and they accept it(I was the free spirit in the family), so that's not a problem...

I have had my mother find out about what I do.  She is the only one.  We do lead a double life so to speak.

One of the reasons I do screen is to avoid such situations, but unfortunately have had that scenario happen a few times in which I knew the individual either directly or indirectly.  I am ashamed to say that those are the times that I do handle the situation very unprofessionally.  I had the first time been quite honest about knowing the individual, but that left the gent curious and digging to find out exactly who it was that he knew. That had me having heart palpatations, praying he wouldn't figure it out.  The last couple times I have hit that scenario, I have blown them off and I have stood a couple of gents up because of knowing them.  I just go into a panic when this happens and do not know how to handle it in a dignified manner.

"Late" was used as to her name.  Respecting her desire for privacy on this board I did not use her new one.
