When I was in the USN, a most disturbing experience was sitting in a sweaty 5" gun turret as an officer captive of the chatter during firing exercises with a dozen men who had been given the choice of going to jail or enlisting.  The conversations were vile, every other word being the "f' word.  Yet, when an unexploded shell was ejected back into the mount, a brave courageous petty officer risked his life for all of us, grabbed it, and threw it over the side.  So, what is the connection with the hobby?  So many threads recently remind me of the captives and victims. Both providers and clients reject so much of the human interaction those like me seek.  They state that it is simply a business and we are delusional in seeking and providing pleasure to our partners.  Yet, how to account for someone risking their life to save others?  Others, clients and providers delight in giving and receiving pleasure, even if only for an hour.  How many minutes does it take to throw an unexploded shell overboard? Almost all of the providers I have seen are not actresses.  That's why I see them repeatedly.  I provide what joy and pleasure I can without crossing the line.  So to those who love your work, are filled with desire beyond the wildest dreams of a pubescent teenager, I salute you.  To those who are simply fullfilling your enlistment, get out and find out if you can survive in the civvy world.

Great sentiment but there is something totally different from saving someone’s life and/or putting yourself at risk of losing your life to save someone else and giving a sexual experience for money.

I'm a veteran and have been in a war zone. I was almost killed 12 years ago and even had my picture up at a famous military hospital (for awhile) with a caption saying, "The Walking Miracle." I even went around and did some positive speaking to other veterans with serious injuries.

Do I enjoy getting paid for what I do now?  Hell yes!  Do I feel bad about it?  Hell no!  Am I still a sympathetic person? Hell yes!  Am I an actress? Hell no sometimes and Hell yes sometimes. Does it matter? Hell no!  Do men who know me and my personality and still want to spend time with me?  Hell yes!  I'm a lot of fun.  Hooah! :)

...no matter what their "profession."  And when i see a good provider, it is fun and can be tender and connective.  And when I see a bad provider - or when I am being a bad client -- it is not. Simple.  Treat everyone like a person and you'll be ok.  Smokey, over, out and Happy 4th!

foolinwithya, what fine line? You either view it as brave or you view it as stupid. The officer did what came naturally to them within the moment. I don't see a fine line there, nothing stupid about that.

When you risk your life for another, stupid does not play a role. When you risk the lives of others, stupid is at the forefront. Don't get those confused with fine lines.

Just curious and not wanting to start a flame war, especially being off topic. I'm not, and never have been, a military person. That being said how high is the  petty officer in rank? In that turret was he the comanding person there? If he was, I have all the respect in the world for what he did. If he wasn't he was just the poor sap expected to do so, not a good or smart position to put yourself in, and in the military they own your ass. I somewhat agree with what you said though, "When you risk your life for another, stupid does not play a role. When you risk the lives of others, stupid is at the forefront. " But, if you risk your life to save someone else's when there is a way to save them without risking yours, that's stupid. Unfortunately, in most situation's of that nature you don't have time to think, reaction take's over.

Petty Officers are various in ranks of the enlisted.  However, even though out ranked by commissioned officers (I was one) we all know that they run the normal Navy.  This guy was a chief PO, high in enlisted rank.  These guys have experience, expertise, and are great to train new green Ensigns of which I was one. This was one smart gutsy guy who knew what he was doing.  In todays conflicts these guys are fighting the real war.  They are genericacly known as "non coms" but they made it clear to me who really ran the Navy. His reaction was a combination of training, experience and courage.  These guys have a human side as well.  When I left the ship, they gave be a boatswains pipe with a hand macrame'd lanyard that I have to this day 40 years later.  Cherished.

Gratis, unsolicited bits of military jargon.  Hope it enlightens and amuses you.
Navy guys are frequently referred to as "swabbies."  The term derives from swabbing the decks of ships.  Another common cliche' among swabbies is if it moves, salute it, if it doesn't move paint it, a constant activity aboard ships.   On heavy combatant ships of the line, the decks were covered with teak wood.  Mops didn't do the job, so the Navy invented "holy stoning" which was an abraisive stone with a hole in it, and wetting the wood, spreading sand, and inserting a pole in the hole, and, in unison, singing and scraping the stone against the wood to polish it.  Why do we call destroyers "tin cans?" Because they are not armor plated like capital ships.  Once penetrated, they are like tin cans and immediately sink.  Brave guys who serve on them.  Why the handle "Charlotte Noble?"
A "charlie noble" is the Navy nickname for a galley smokestack, but that name was already taken.  What is a "midrat?"  Midnight rations from the galley for those who stand the mid-watch midnight to 0700.  What's a "GI?"  Short for Government Issue.  Just like in any provession, newbies (green Ensigns) are subject to pranks. After a shoot, I was sent to the gunnery department to get the "Cannon report."  When we were entering port, hawsers were used to moor the ships to the pier.  I was sent to the "rope locker" to requisition 100' feet of "shore line."
Each service has these pranks and myths. Like fraternity hazing.  The military, particularly the Navy was a life defining experience, created leadership abilities unmatched in civie life, and a comaraderie amongst all of who served. So, what's a boatswains pipe?  Any Navy film you've ever seen has a piped specific sound preceding an announcement such as reville, battle stations, VIP's arriving or departing.  The tweets are done on a bosun's whistle.  They are specific, and require practice. Have fun with these, perhaps regret that you missed out on one of the greatest life experiences of citizenship.

If genuine human interaction is the thing that an individual seeks then I imagine that for most people paying prostitutes would not be the ideal route to finding that. Looking for a GFE? Then find a girlfriend.

I do understand what Charlottenoble needs and I think it's okay to fantasize and enjoy each other's company. I've made a few close friends in this business and I do enjoy my time spent with someone. However, escorts cannot fill the void of a real relationship once the experience is over.

SOME MEN are really looking more for a mistress than an escort. But remember, the mistress will only have an affair with someone she wants a relationship with and whom she finds attractive.  

The consequences for having a mistress: The mistress will likely feel guilty, not important and disrespected. The man could feel guilty about his wife and children, and the so-called adulterers (if you want to call them that) will still have to hide their relationship. In other words:  They cannot be seen in town together, she cannot call his house whenever she likes, he cannot come over to her house whenever he feels like it, and they'll always be worried about getting caught. I guess to some people that sounds exciting, but I think escorting is easier and less troublesome as long as everyone in this game is realistic. Wink!

have been known to also need some sun exposure, and provide bright brilliant green colors around the house... also do not smell (when properly ventilated).  This unit also comes with its own nifty container...  just put it in the corner of your bed for fun and amusement! only need occasional walks outside to "exercise" and stretch the legs!  lol

Despite your flaming, I will respond as an officer and gentleman.  I was a naval officer from 1960-1968, two years active duty, the remaining reserves.  Too young for Korea, too old for Vietnam.  Served on two cruisers in WestPac.

I believe you misread the analogy I supplied, not the comparability of courage to "nutting" but the attitude of time servers vs. the dedicated.  There was also a bit of implied class element in the post.  As an aside, nutting stupidly can be life threatening.  Just ask the ladies.

As for me, just getting laid is easy. I see very few providers, but see them regularly, and we keep in touch beyond the encounters.  These are wonderful ladies whom I cherish.  If they did not reciprocate the pleasure then we each would move on.

So to end this missive, in our society there are folks who have no class, resent their service, and are filled with cynicism, all reflected in the Navy.  There are other folks who are dedicated, love what they do, and as we all do, pay for everything in one form or another.  

Celebrate the 4th of July for it's true meaning.
Have a beer, BBQ, time with friends and family, and give thanks for our liberty.

that sadly he did not toss that shell over quick enough. The concussion appears to have had some lingering effect. In order to get by in this world, some people need to think Jesus is the Lord and some people need to think that prostitutes love them. In the words of JL, "Whatever gets you through the night.
