The 'casting call' on the main TER page has set me thinking.  I wonder if guys would be more/less likely to see a provider who'd been featured on a TV show like that?  

Would it be an attraction or you or would be worried that if you are out to dinner together she may get recognised and people would guess at the nature of your relationship?  Or would it make no difference at all either way?

I wouldn't really care if you were on TV without me, it might be an issue if I was your date on the TV show LOL

I think it has some potential to create problems.  Fame and recognition in the public eye could possibly create problems for those encounters where dinner/dancing, etc. and public meetings are part of the sessions.  If the show is a hit (and it certainly has that potential) it might prove difficult to explain those public meetings.  For example, if friends or business associates saw me out with Julia Roberts, I really can't even think of a reasonable explanation right now.  On the other hand, if I were to be seen in public with you, Carrie (what a wonderful thought, by the way!) it would be simple to introduce you as a friend or client or even the old stand-by, my beautiful niece!  No such chance with someone that is very famous and recognizable (outside of our little community.)  My two cents....

Except you would be better known (and could command higher rates).  Is the fame worth say $2500/hour?  Maybe I am thinking too small...

I am bothered by the casting call and TER's recent change to a hyper-marketing style (use of logos on provider sites, etc.).

this site is a great resource.  However, individual members will not be able to withstand white-hot spotlighting that accompanies a select few providers "15 minutes of fame."

I like the Fight Club Analogy for TER.  Rule No. 1, you don't talk about fight club / TER.  Rule No. 2, you don't talk about fight club, etc....

I hope Staff takes precautions to preserve privacy and annonimity of members (IP addys and more personal information).

I'm not anti-Staff or anti-TER.  This is a great forum, But I see trouble on the horizon for those of us who prefer a low profile mode of operation.  Am I in the distinct minority here?

That was first reaction when I saw the TV show mentioned on TER.

Could we be asking for trouble by being not so discrete?  Just one man's opinion.

By the way, a date with Carrie...now that's heaven.

The question is how do we ask Staff to deal with the fallout?  Wow will staff protect our identities and our PMs if "crusuader rabbit" comes after TER?  Perhaps, staff will be willing to respond (maybe Staff's lawyer).

the fantasy would be even greater!  However, I would be less likely to be comfortable on a dinner date.  I don't need the attention...although in your case, the whiplash factor would be pretty bad, whether or not you are a "celebrity".  Dinner in Vegas?  Possibly.  In my hometown?  No way.

This business is about being discreet and laying low. I think this is particularly appreciated in San Diego right now.  By opening it up to public scrutiny, we are inviting all kinds of problems. I wonder how many providers really want a permanent record of what they do broadcast all over the world today and on future re-runs for their family, potential future children, and others to constantly see.  If I thought that my privacy as a hobbiest might be violated, I would likely drop out.  

Frankly, those likely to be selected probably make a large amount of $$ already.  If they want publicity, they should consider the porn industry.  Incidentally, the producers of one of the shows is located in Sherman Oaks, ground zero for the porn industry.

Ladies, how could you know this is not LE?  How big can you print "risk"?

In answer to your question, IF THIS IS A LEGITIMATE SHOW, those who go on it are more likely to receive more negative publicity than they will positive. As much as we would like for the rest of the world to understand what we do and how wonderful it is, many people are too close minded to ever look at things from our perspective.

Out of curiousity, I read the info on the main page.  Can anyone explain why a legitimate show would be using an aol address?  Has anyone verified that this is not an attempt by LE to make a statement of their own?  Even if the show is real, I would think those who participate better be doing everything by the book, including paying their fair share of taxes.  I can't imagine how any companion could go public and remain safe unless they were already retired.

Definietly, YES. I believe that the lady would be that much more appealing because it lends some degree of the erotic, exotic, taboo and an ego boost for the gents.

I'd definitely look elsewhere, at least for public dates.  To me, discretion is vital.  I wouldn't want to run the risk that a friend or associate saw me at dinner with a date and made the association.

If I was meeting a date at a private location, it wouldn't matter at all.

I think it could put a lady in Porn Star type status given she'd have a certain amount of notoriety without having to act in adult features.  Unless cameras were following her around 24/7, it wouldn't bother me.

The potential tax implication is a very good point.  Before you put yourself on television thereby becoming a target of straight society, you better have your tax returns in order.  Someone might start wondering where all the income is going.

I agree with most hobbyist's posts here... discretion and keeping a low profile are of utmost importance. National recognition of TER runs contrary to that goal, and will probably generate unwanted publicity from religious and other moral organizations. It will turn on a spotlight that non of us hobbists want, and will increase the possiblity of Internet eavesdropping and other intelligence gathering from our LE friends.

I would like to see STAFF's response to these concerns raised by VIP members. STAFF, your membership is speaking out! Please turn down the spotlight.
