and make stuff happen... nothing quite like that!

Last lady I know with lactating breasts is a stripper.... who still has some milk left over... one night in a playful mood, she let me "milk her!"   Think she enjoys too....

My ex breast fed all of her offspring for over a year.... (each one)!

and while I love breasts - one might say I am obsessed with breasts, even I think this a dumb idea -

For starters - there is plenty of scientific data that (only one paper is cited below- but there are others.... ) that support that at least in women, intake of Ca from a dairy source is a "good thing"!  PETA makes a blanket statement - and everyone just accepts the statement on face value!  What kind of journalism is that????  That just sucks... speaking of sucking... ever nuzzle and suckle a nice plump breast - that is bursting with milk..... ummmmm.... milk does a body good.

Relationship between dietary calcium intake, body mass index, and waist circumference in MABAT--the Israeli National Health and Nutrition Study.Dicker D, Belnic Y, Goldsmith R, Kaluski DN.
Department of Medicine D, Rabin Medical Center, Hasharon Hospital, Petah Tikva, Israel. [email protected]

BACKGROUND: It has been suggested that increased calcium intake plays a role in preventing obesity and promoting weight loss. OBJECTIVES: To assess the association between calcium intake, body mass index and waist circumference in Israel. METHODS: MABAT was a cross-sectional survey based on a random sample of 3246 Israelis aged 25 to 64. Of the 3246 survey participants, height and weight measurements were recorded for 2782 (1371 men and 1411 women). These were divided into three groups according to their BMI (group A less than or = 24.9, group B 25-29.9, and group C greater than or = 30) and given a 24 hour dietary recall questionnaire. Waist circumference was measured in 2601 participants (1760 men and 841 women) and was considered to be excessive if greater than or = 102 cm for men or greater than or = 88 cm for women. RESULTS: The mean calcium intake was 511.5 +/- 301.8 mg for group A, 499.4 +/- 283.7 mg for group B, and 464.7 +/- 280.1 mg for group C (group A significantly differed from group C, P  0.002). The mean daily milk consumption in group A was higher than in groups B and C (103.4 +/- 147.5, 85.7 +/- 122.25, and 84.5 +/- 135.1 g, respectively; P 0.01). There was no correlation between daily dietary calcium intake and waist circumference for men, but women with a waist circumference below 88 cm consumed significantly more dietary calcium than those with a waist circumference greater than or = 88 cm (P 0.03). CONCLUSIONS: The study confirms the inverse relationship between daily dietary calcium intake and obesity. This linkage relates to the intake of milk, but not to other dairy products.

...so it's wise to take ANYTHING they say with a grain of salt.

Animal Society over Peta for those so inclined. Maybe I'll go over to the P&R board seeking donations. Just to make it appropriate for that board I'll throw in a pitch for the free Tibet movement.  I can just tell most of those guys are Buddhists:)

ice cream, I'll sip the milk from the source.

I already read about this -- and being a breastfeeding mother, it cracked me up.  If you fed those Ben & Jerry mothers oreo cookies all day, just imagine how the ice cream would taste!

In what way it would be more "humane," I'm not really sure... On a serious note, I'd prefer that extra breastmilk go to babies whose mothers are, for whatever reason, unable to breastfeed, and I have actually donated over 10,000 oz of my breastmilk to support that cause. :)

Katie that's a lot of milk. I am impressed. How did you produce that much?

Charlie,
Thanks for the compliment. ;) How did I do it?  Honestly, I barely noticed it.  I used to pump every night a few hours after my son went to bed anyway, and during his customary 4-hour naps during the day; also, I had a child who absolutely REFUSED to take breastmilk from a bottle -- fresh from the tap ONLY, for him.  Even now, he refuses to drink breastmilk from a sippy cup.  I no longer produce NEARLY as much as I used to, not since my pump busted... my supply is depressingly minimal nowadays. :( However I am hoping to purchase a new breast pump some time soon and start working my supply back up, because my mates both LOVE my breastmilk (more than my son does, at this point, I think).

I know a woman whose child is 2 years old, and still exclusively breastfed, due to a chewing/swallowing disorder that makes her unable to eat solids.  This woman has donated over 100,000 oz of breastmilk - so to her, 10,000 is just a drop in the bucket!

honestly say, I got my share as well....

She also pumped at work, and we had oddles of breast milk stored in the freezer for our son... and later our daughter.  We never used formula... and I have to say that kids who are breast fed do seem a tad more calm... and more comfortable...

and any woman who breast feeds is an ok mom in my book...  you go girl!

He turned 2 last month and I *still* can't get him off the things.  A lot of people think it's "gross," but there are several prominent health organizations that recommend a MINIMUM of two years of breastfeeding, including the WHO.  I have researched the topic exhaustively and cannot find one single study that can prove to me that breastfeeding a child for ANY length of time damages them in ANY way.  Pretty crazy.  I even read an article about a UK mother who breastfed her daughters until they were.. well, one of them was EIGHT!  I don't think I could go quite that far - not in this hypersexualized culture - but ... her kids seemed quite fine, calm, level-headed, and extremely intelligent and well cared for!

Anyway. *steps off soapbox* Uh.

Here's an interesting tid bit that might make that scoop of ice cream out of reach for most

1 ounce of breast milk....$2.25

it takes 192 ounces to make a gallon of ice cream

Grand total cost of $432.00

Talk about inflation ;-)

Thanks for the math lesson and a very interesting topic

Kisses Haley

People
Eating
Tasting
Animals

Don't forget meat is MURDER, tasty, tasty murder.

All the animals I eat are vegeterians. I'll continue to eat my vegetables the way God intended - processed through a cow!

I think I'll head over to my favorite burger joint and order me a PETA specialty: Double Bacon Cheeseburger and an extra large MILKshake!

Honestly, there are barely words to describe how pitiful and pathetic the real PETA organization really is.  Ones that probably don't really get thrown around much are "hypocritical" and "phony"!  If PETA REALLY CARED about cows they'd focus on beef and not "breast milk as a substitute" for the dairy industry.  But then again, they seek publicity and they know that suggesting "breast milk for Ben & Jerry's" will put them in the news.  Truly, they care more about their own egos & self-worth, than protecting animals.

And as for "pathetic", ask yourself this:  Has PETA done anything at all to change your beliefs or behavior?  Maybe a few people got educated about the fur-trapping industry a couple of decades ago, but that's it.  They know they're a joke and instead of trying to change people's perception, they take it down to all time lows.  It's a good thing most people already believe in the "ethical treatment of animals", b/c I sure would hate to have a nutjob organization like PETA looking out for me if I was an animal.

I few years ago I was introduced to the work of PETA by friends at a University campus. The intention of PETA is good..to make the general public aware of crimes against animals and living things in general. But for me, their guerilla like tactics and elaborate campaigns can be a bit extreme and hard to stomache and this idea of using human milk is one such example. I dont knock PETA's work, but the way they go about making their point is a bit dramatic for me sometimes.

they started to equate a child's life to that of a dog.  Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, but human life is more important than a animal's life.
