Half of this stuff you could have left out because most people already learned this in college or at least high school. This is nothing new, sorry for the criticism, but this was just plain STUPID to read.

You have posted accurate information. You've also interwoven your personal views, which are easily distinguishable by persons with a working knowledge of this topic.

Those personal views do not come from working experience or degree level study. No insult to you, or condescension here on my part, but behavioral health as understood by the public-at-large is way behind other advancments in public understanding.

I'd compare it to the equivalent of health and medical knowledge, in the public, of 100 years ago. I'd compare the general care and concern generally given to the subject to that of racial and women's issues 50 years ago. As a public we're way behind!

General misunderstanding is compounded and perpetuated by all the fuax-info presented on the matter in a media sound-bite style that is the norm these days. One can't just read up on it and get a good handle on it. Not this topic.

So, I'm frustrated when I read fuax-info posts like this. You  have (a) presented some accurate information (DMS4 to DMS5 classification), (b)left out pertinent information (it's a spectrum disorder) then you've make a poor and unsubstantiatable assursion (they are dangerous).

No one who is credible and practicing in the field today would make the bold sweeping conclusion you make that having Antisocial Personality Disorder makes someone dangerous.

What IS DANGEROUS is that ovesimplification.

Furthermore, one cannot identify APD in another person by spending the amount of time with them that one would in a standard hobby situation. One may not even be able to identify SEVERE and DANGEROUS APD it in a workmate, loved or relative. (Don't forget, John Wayne Gacy Jr. was adored.)  

There is no evidence or even suggestion that there are more people with ASP in the hobby, either male or female, the public at large. In fact, certain characteristics of ASP, would lend itself to steering a person away from the hobby, either as a client or a provider.

That, of course, is also speculative as there is no data, but if you follow up on my assersion, you will find it to be the more common deduction from someone in field. (I'm basing that off working in this field.)

So, warning and alarm is unneeded. I think that is dangerous also. Low-knowledge psuedo-diagnosing others is never beneficial. Ever.

So, with all due respect to an otherwise well written post, and a serious post at that, I say:

Your concluding statement "When encountered in the world of commercial sex, these dangerous people should be avoided" is of no real value to anyone.

It is like saying "When you oncounter a person that might be a serial killer, avoid them."

What do you think all the security screening and so on is for?

We providers already KNOW that there are dangerous people out there. That's why we constantly request certain relevant information. (Yes, yes, I know about the rest of the info some want; I said RELEVANT information).

When hobbyists don't provide the information critical to us, like a real name, valid phone number and consistent email, it makes us feel that you're a potential danger to our health and welfare - and we'll avoid you.

But, I'll give you this, if a newbie provider reads this, it might give her another reason to start screening if she hasn't done so up to now.

learn that there are sociopaths and psychopaths. Most mental health professionals who work in the prison system can tell you the difference between the two, or even most criminal lawyers for that matter.

So, speaking in your terms, regarding the lack of ability to empathize with others, what prompted you to post this?  Perhaps you are the problem of which you speak, because I can't imagine anyone here experiencing the need receive your message. Hence, you have failed to empathize with us!

Since everyone agrees you're stating the obvious

it's very hard. as a rule folks with Antisocial Personality Disorder who are successful also have sufficient skills to fake a degree of empathy. it is surprising that according t the reference there is a 4% incidence of this disorder. it is probably higher in the hobby. THAT is the main reason why the 4Fs are a good idea for most. the illusion on both sides does not get disturbed.

1) laws and rules don't apply: not caring about the consequences of getting in trouble.  that's why screening has an advantage over taking references. a reference may not tell the story. but even then sufficient skill at avoiding arrests might cover this up, but only for a while. overconfidence and other bad habits will eventually attract attention.

2) inability to think of _consequences_ for anyone else. it's hard to define. there is an asymmetry in thinking and expectations.  the only _calculation_ of consequences (there is no feeling involved) is in regard to what might hapen to the person with the disorder.

there are no quick tips. observation over time would be necessary.

I encountered one a while back that I believe suffers from the above referenced disorder. She was/is quite the mess!
