So the background. When I'm actually home and not touring the country seeing everyone's smiling faces, I generally call Wisconsin home. Short milwaukee and Madison, which both have their own stable markets for this consumer industry and access to Chicago, the rest of the state has got classified sites and other small site and a few girls personal websites.  
From my observation, a lot of these girls sell themselves short and have tragically low rates for whatever reason. I also really never get a whole lot of the ladies as references for smaller markets that would fit that description. Most are other girls that tour. When I do get them, it's often in Wisconsin, but it's usually one with other references being more established and so on.
Most often when I get references from ladies and gentlemen seeing me, it's for other providers I can find here or with a similar hobby platform, most have a well established online presence, are active with that online presence, and are generally within about a $50-100 range in rates and quality of service.
When I do my screening and I'm being provided references for other ladies, I take into consideration how they been reviewed and what there rates are to sort of understand what that specific guy's/girl's interests and expectation may be.
Question for the guys and girls, and then one for each...  
Both: what do you think it means when a client contacts you and is providing references for provides that have reviews are pretty terrible (7's as highest score but there are lower), and rates that are 1/3--or les--of what yours are. I also got 5 of these references from the same person. I'll leave it open ended for your interpretation and my own to the side.
Guys guestion: do you often look for providers across a wide range of offerings, and if you do why? If you largely do not, in the instances that you go outside then specific band of providers, why do you?
Ladies question: if a guy approached you with references that werequite outside providers that are similarly situated, would you see that person? And if so, why, and if not, why?

recently talking about scoring.  Scores are meaningless for a hobbyist.  Its the narrative that tells you what you need to know about whether a provider is a good fit for your style or not.  Many times you read reviews where a hobbyist is over-the-top effusive about what a good time he had and would repeat the next day if he can get an appointment, but then gives a score of 7/7.  Another reviewer will say how disappointed he was, will not ever repeat, and then gives the provider an 8/8.  No one knows what is going on in the head of a reviewer when he gets to the point of assigning a numerical score to her experience.  The scores can be all over the place.  The narrative is what count.  Was it a good session or not?  I know many providers that I refer to as "score snobs" and obsess over a review score lower than 9, but sometimes those guys are regulars and are essentially paying the bills for the provider with their loyalty, so disqualifying anyone on the basis of a numerical score is a huge mistake for a provider, IMO.  They may miss out on some super loyal customers that just use a lower scoring system than the ones that get sex-drunk and give 10/10's to everyone, which is just as meaningless.

In regard to provider's giving references, I didn't think they were terribly deep beyond assuring that the client wasn't LE, wasn't dangerous, or otherwise someone of ill character.   Thus I am confused how a provider's score on, say, looks, would have a bearing on the validity of their reference.

many people will screen based on 8/8 or higher, so narratives don't come into play unless a lady is at least an 8/8.  Then narratives become significant.    

then compatibility, are we a good fit.  

To put your scores remarks into my perspective ...  
I had a date with an mature provider, a 6/7, with mad skills. When she arrived, she politely asked if she was my cup of tea, as I usually saw younger gals who were petite and usually 8/9/10 for looks, and if I wanted to continue with the date. If I can say this in the most respectful way, every gal I'd seen was way hotter looking than her  

I found her offer to pull the plug on the date, after I saw her, unnecessary, but very charming and  professional so stayed to course ... and we had all the fun I expected.  

So I have no idea how my referral's scores would have any impact an escort's willingness to see me.

The providers can vary in physical appearance, however, I must find them attractive. Mostly, I tend to go for spinners, petite, pretty little things, but every know and then someone just jumps out to me for whatever reason. Reading reviews does not matter that much to me unless I see something that is just a huge turnoff. I hate CBJ's for example, or multiple instances of poor hygiene mentioned in reviews will be a automatic Fuck NO! Other than that, I go off of my gut reaction to photos (and videos) I do tend to like video because they are much more accurate.  I have to find the provider sexy and there are times that I don't even know why that provider is sexy. I just do.

scores themselves, in how I'm viewing them, don't really have a bearing, but the content of the reviews does. So what I' saying is that the reviews themselves were pretty plain as to how the providers' services go. It wasn't a reference on looks, but a reference to quality of what it is they do, and while reviews are open to interpretation as to what a score could mean, generally scores, in the aggregate, tend to be pretty accurate for that. make more sense?

As to the second, I look for providers who do things I enjoy, an awesome massage being one of those things that I prize highly.

However, depending on all types of circumstances, I might see other gals because I like how they present themselves on the board, or I get a good recommendation from someone I know, etc.

I just take it as he is not very good at researching who to see or has a lower budget. I also look at how those reviewers typical give scores (some guys always give lower scores) and compare it to the content in the reviews. It always baffles me when a guy describes a 9-10 time but gives low scores, same holds true for giving 9's and 10's but reads like a crap time.

The few times I have been a client: A GFE is a must. So all those things that are typical GFE acts matter to me. I go beyond that though. I do look at the personality and if I feel I could have a great time beyond just the sex. I book dinner/meet combos, so it would hold great value to me to have a great conversation. I want a lively time with someone who is bisexual. I hesitate on meeting with girls who are more PSE or S&M as the approach is vastly different than GFE.

If they see a certain type and I am not in that category, I make sure he is aware that I am different than what he is use to. Maybe he decided to try something new.  

As far as "similarly situated", it really just depends on each person. More often than not, if he clears screening and is polite/comes across as being nice, I am willing to meet. Perhaps he is learning about the Hobby just now, I happened to catch his eye, or his financial situation changed.  

I use references as part of the screening process. It doesn't matter to me who he gets his from, just that at a minimum I can see he is safe and not LE.

You have a good point.

Back when I was a paying member I often started my searches doing the old 8-10, 8-10, 8-10 search.

I've progressed beyond that but you are definitely on to something.

Both:  I don't put much value in the appearance score. I can go to a provider's website and see how attractive she is. If she is attractive to me (even with scores in the 7 range, I will read several of her reviews. If her performance is GFE and has some personality (per her ads, board posts or PM / email exchanges, then I will attempt to see her.  

Guys Question: I don't always try to see a particular type of provider. In the past I have seen providers as young as early 20's and as mature as being in their 40's. Some have been petite (5') and others as tall as 6 feet. Some have been very thin and others listed as "average".  Lastly, sometimes I'm interested in FBSM rather than FS.  

So I cannot see scores or reviews so they have no weight in the decisions I make. References are another story....

If you screen by numbers, then you might be missing out on a terrific girl that just has a lot of customers that score strictly on the low side.  Most girls don't coach their customers how to score, and many guys, especially the newer ones, take the TER definitions attached to the scoring literally, so they think they should only give a 10 once in their entire lifetime.  Accordingly, their numerical scores tend to be lower even though the narrative says they had the time of their life.  You gotta read the narratives for a true picture of how the session went.  The numbers mean nothing because each reviewer uses a different reference scale.  If they all used the exact same standard for awarding a number score, then the scores would be consistent.
