Being a student of history, I would disagree with the statement that a sophisticated woman would not sell her time. Granted I'm assuming that's what you are alluding to. On the other hand you might be commenting to ladies who literally state on their site time in exchange for Roses.
I am unsure so if the following is notwithstanding, forgive me:
There is historical documentation of some astoundingly sophisticated women working as prostitutes. Often they came from wealthy backgrounds, their families having had lost their fortunes due to war, politics or simple back luck. Upon relocating they'd work as courtesans.
I put forth Veronica Franco of the 16th century as an example.
The same is true today. There are some astoundingly sophisticated women working as professional companions. It becomes immediately evident in their writing and upon making their acquaintance.
To be sophisticated is to worldly and elegant, one can be those things while using open sexuality to gain income.

The word "sophisticated" along with "upscale" are sooooo overused in ads that I wonder what people really mean.
It's a huge responsibility for providers to have to describe themselves for the sake of an ad. I find that outsiders...family/friends probably would do a better job pointing out our strengths.
Gentlemen: when you read a provider's ad with a description "sophisticated" what is the first thing that comes to mind?
1. The provider is sophisticated because of her awesome website and/or photos.
2. The provider is sophisticated in her demeanor/interactions.
3. The provider has an incall that is sophisticated.
4. The provider is well-read and her world knowledge reflects her sophistication.
Keep in mind that I am aware that "sophistication" is relative.
DEFINITIONS
Sophisticated: a person's thoughts, reactions and level of understanding; a person's awareness of and ability to interpret complex issues. Also describes someone having a great deal of worldly experience and knowledge.
Upscale: relating to the more expensive or affluent (wealthy) sector of the market.
Providers: describe a sophisticated hobbyist.
1. The hobbyist who sends an initial detailed email with screening information is sophisticated.
2. The hobbyist who takes you to exclusive and upscale locations is sophisticated.
3. The hobbyist who brings a fine bottle of wine and offers great conversation is sophisticated.
4. The hobbyist who is well-read and an intellect is sophisticated.
**Personally I've had moments where I've been seduced by some of the fine men whom I've met through in this industry.
It's the same for all the other buzz words like classy, upscale, high-end, etc.
I judge the gal by her reviews, her demeanor on the boards, how her site is laid out, how she writes, her photos, etc.
I'm not saying there aren't some girls that are classier than others, but your post and phrase made me laugh.
lol. It is funny and I do agree its an oxymoron. Hee hee
those that do not misspell "sophisticated" along with "upscale."
Seriously, I do look for a comfort level and possibly some shared interests before contacting. The writings of providers is often an influence in whether or not I would see them.
I won't go into strong detail, on what sophisticated to me, because I've young ladies off backpage, who ran 100 speicals that were more sophisticated, based on personality, and performance. vs some providers i've on eros who charge a high who are rude, arrogant, and you'd get mor pleasure dry humping a pillow then having sex with her.
Same goes with upscale, it depends on how the provider present herself, and the hotel she's staying in. If you're staying at the LaQuinta, or Red Roof, I'm not expecting you to be an upscale. But if you're at the Gaylord Hotel, I know you're a high roller.
remember never to judge a book by its cover. because of very close family connections, i can stay at any Gaylord property in the country at absolutely no cost. zip, zero, zilch. however i'd have to pony up in order to stay at the Red Roof. so if i were the sort to prefer entertaining at hotels (i don't), and were for some reason running low on funds, my friends would have to meet me at Gaylord because Red Roof would just be too "upscale" lol.
Sophisticated to me from your list is #2 and #4.
Upscale to me is associated with cost but it can be related to sophistication.
If her ad says she is sophisticated and upscale I expect her donation will be slightly above mid range or higher and she will fit your descriptions #2 and #4.
I do wonder however if she really is or if these are PR buzz words that she is using to get my attention and purely a come on.
I tend to be skeptical when confronted with this kind of ad. I'm wondering if she is pretentious.
I check out your #1, her web site, it will be the proof of what she says. How does she write? If she is on the boards how does she present herself? That will show me if what she says in her ad is true.
So I don't discount her description but I don't just take it a face value.
Some upscale, sophisticated people are snobs. I'm not interested.
I completely disagree with the poster that says it's an oxymoron.
My experience has been that all the providers I've seen had something to offer in conversation and life experience that was worth sharing and they were quite capable of interacting on a level beyond just the physical.
I enjoyed reading your response. I do feel that at times we are sort of obligated to use PR buzz words to sort of lure clients. This is not to say that one intentionally misleads but rather overemphasizes a certain aspect of herself.
If I were to state that what I enjoy the most is practicing yoga, meditating and reading...I'd probably come off as boring to many. lol

You left out "elite" and "classy". Two other terms I often see on websites.
I feel that if one is sophisticated, upscale and intelligent, there should be no need to bluntly declare it on a website. Doing so is akin to bragging, which in itself is uncultivated.
It is up to the reader to make such distinctions. A sophisticated woman will be able to communicate in a fashion that makes her refinement readily apparent, never having to say it out loud.

... I have done 100x as much dating in the civie world as the compensated world, and as a result I bring a lot of my civie evaluations from reading personal ads and stuff to this world.
When I see that some woman is "sophisticated" I read "high maintenance." When I see "upscale" I read "orders the most expensive thing on the menu out of principle" when I see "elite" I read "bad in bed" and when I see "classy" I read "too good for me."
Like Lauren said -- if you ARE truly sophisticated -- trust me, *I'll figure it out* based upon other things.

Lol..true they are also common terms. When I check out a provider's website, I actually enjoy reading "About Her" in the form of a third person. Regardless of whether she is the original writer or not. It is as if someone else is giving me insight into her inner as well as outer beauty. There is something appealing about that.
Ok, ok. I know the website is for men. I just mean that I enjoy a well-written website.
