The CLAP is BACK, no not the BAND

Gonorrhea, one of the the smartest of all the bacterial STDs, is on the rise. From Wyoming to Utah to Minnesota, there are reports of cases increasing, some by 74 percent—all on the heels of the first incurable strain hitting North American genitalia back earlier this year. And now, British doctors who devote their careers to studying The Clap are warning that the disease could be completely untreatable sooner than the U.S. elects a new president. "[T]here is a possibility that if we don't do something then it could become untreatable by 2015," professor Cathy Ison, head of the National Reference Laboratory for Gonorrhea in the U.K., told the BBC Wednesday.

"Untreatable," as Dr. Ison sees it, would be a nightmare scenario not only for patients bound to suffer complications like infertility and ectopic pregnancies, but also for doctors who could no longer break transmission, becoming unprepared to deal with more complex infections. And though Ison's warning of a gonorrhea doomsday is a hypothetical worst-case scenario, the troubling signs of growing cases and incurable strains are already here.

Gonorrhea can be spread orally and anally (and live in whatever region it is... deposited) as well so keep that in mind.  Doctors can do a simple swab to check for it.

Not just Gonorrhea but Herpes, HPV, etc. There is a general misconception among many in the "Hobby" that oral activities are ~100% safe. Certainly for HIV the risk of infection is very, very rare via oral routes. There is also a misconception that all of the other STDs are 100% treatable - but with increasing drug-resistant strains showing up that is no longer the case. Not to preach "doom and gloom" but just one resistant strain in the years to come could reach epidemic proportions not only in the Hobby world but out into the civialian word. Even though these may not always be "life-threathening" or cause immediate mortality they will impact the quality of life for a significant portion of the population.

I'm old enough to remember when CBJ was the norm (especially back in the 80's when AIDS first hit). Likewise, many back then didn't Daty providers (I certainly didn't). Once people saw reports of how rare (like 1 a year) oral transmitted HIV they relaxed about unprotected oral and the "GFE" explosion took place. BBBJ quickly became the "norm" I remember years ago when I received my first BBBJ from a provider. I was surprised she didn't put a cover on and she looked at me and told me "Don't worry it's completely safe you can't catch AIDS this way". (those are her exact words)

I doubt we will ever turn 180 and go back to CBJ being the norm again. There is too much enjoyment (for both parties) relative to the risks. Best we can do is just to be aware, take care of our health; get tested regularly, and try to be selective of our partners, and when in doubt use protection - or leave.
