I'm mildly surprised that as far as I know no one has picked up on Annie Sprinkle's review of the above book in last Sunday's NY Times.  Sprinkle, porn star turned author who writes that she's had sex with over 3000 johns, praises this comic book memoir for dispelling many of the myths about paying for sex.  She concludes that Brown's arguments for decriminalization and destigmatization will be welcome to prostitutes everywhere, and also "a valuable resource for academics, a challenge to law enforcement and politicians, and a boon to johns the world over."   Well, don't hold your breath but it just might be that the hypocrtical and uptight strictures toward commercial sex just might be loosening.  For starters, it's amazing that the NY Times carries a lengthy review by Annie Sprinkle in the first place.

until my copy arrived from Amazon and I had a chance to read it.

The review was quite positive,  Sprinkle felt that the book was a fair and accurate portrayal of different types of encounters.  I'm looking forward to seeing if I agree.  It's pretty rare to have a realistic portrayal of prostitution, and the graphic novel genre seems capable of depicting more issues in depth than many people would give it credit for.

I read the review and was amazed.  Then I read it to my wife.  Sprinkle writes very well and the book sounds fascinating.  But don't count on it changing any minds.

but not comprehensive and most of the incidents focus on agency providers.  I agree Sprinkle's review is well done.  In the NYT Magazine, same day, an article extolling infidelity as being good for keeping families together.  Will the hobby go mainstream?  Somehow I think that's a way off.
