No politician is going to be allowed to state "I am for the freedom to do what you want with your own body" That stance would be IMMEDIATELY be twisted into "I am for human trafficking" and NO ONE wants to be cast as a defender of the horrible crime of human trafficking, it would be political suicide.
That said, no one wanted to be cast as a defender of gays or stoners either once upon a time, but eventually those policies shifted as public opinion changed over the years. The big difference is that MILLIONS of gays came out and said "we're here, we're queer, deal with it" with the stoners basically sending the same message that they were mainstream, good people who were tired or being persecuted/prosecuted for behavior that affected no one but themselves. If whores and whoremongers would stand up and be counted "maybe" we could see some progress on our front too, but by and large hookers and johns don't have the courage of conviction to stand up for ourselves. Let's face it, the stoners and fags have a LOT more guts than we do as a group. Both hookers and johns alike are so ashamed of what we do that they are afraid to tell even their best friends, how do we expect a groundswell of support when we are too cowardly to even admit that we happily exchange sex for money to those closest to us, much less come out and campaign for our rights.
Back to Trump, there is a saying in politics "Is this really the hill you want to die on?" and regardless of most politicians actual personal feeling on the subject, if the people partaking in an activity are too cowardly to stand up for themselves why should ANY politician throw away his career over it?
Speaking strictly for myself, I can't think of anyone close to me who doesn't know I pay for sex, and I make ZERO effort to hide that fact, except to LE of course, until a few million of the people whining about these laws join me in "coming out" NOTHING is going to be done, and anyone whining about it without standing up to be counted is just that, a WHINER.
