Just curious, does anyone know the who/when/where of how this term originated?  The link implies that providers started using the term.  When did it become widely accepted and understood?  I guess I could do a search on the TERboards and see how far back I can find a GFE reference.
Maybe the TERministrators can shed some light.

Ok, the first reference on TER was on 8/11/2000.  Somebody was asking for help finding a GFE in the LA area.  He used the term like it was already understood by all.  So I guess the term pre-dates even TER?

Wow, I can't imagine this hobby without TER.  Or without the internet.  Or without cellphones.  How did you guys do it?  Hoo-ray for tech-knowledg-ee!

I would mosey into Miss Kitties, and chat with her 'bout one of her gals.  Take my time, perhaps chat with Marshall Dillon.  Course none of us would ever request Miss Kittie as we'se knows that she was Marshall Dillon's main squeeze.

Every now and again, one of us would catch somethin' some sort of disease or maybe an ounce or two of lead, and ole Doc would patch us up....

Mostly it was a drab time, till they 'vented color....   everynow and then - those Cartwheel boys would come to town and try to stop our fun... ole Marshall Dillon, he knowed a good thing when he saw it  - and he chased them boys back to their ranch...

Seriously, many bluebloods do not recognize that there were far fewer women in the "West" than men, and the law was few and far between.  Prostitution was legal in most places - and quite acceptable as a way of spreading the ladies around!  hardly ever recognized for their contribution....  the old TV show - "Gunsmoke" came the closest to telling it like it was...

We knew the localtion of every phone booth in the area and we carried around a lot of coins.  I also kept a lot of reference material in the car like old copies of the Boston Phoenix personal ads and copies of massage and escort pages from the Yellow Pages.  It was not uncommon to find a Phone Directory at a pay phone with all the pages for escort and massage ripped out.
Kids these days can't image life without cell phones, faxes and computer, but where there was a will, there was always a way.
A cute old, but disappearing trick was to have a date call the escort from a phone booth that she could see from her apartment window just before the date, so she could verify him.  If she couldn't get an apartment with a view of a phone booth, she would previously write a code word somewhere in the booth and ask the date to tell her what the code word was, to be sure he was there.  I guess prank calling was a big problem back then.

And it was a well established term then. It was the code word in AMPs for asking the lady for sex with out a condom. The term was hi-jacked sometime in the mid 90's to mean emotional connection between client and provider as the out-call business grew on the internet, but the roots of the term go way back.

That's still a common practice with providers, especially with first-timers clients, at least in Manhattan, and it goes back at least to the early 80s, if not further. [But I never experienced the wrinkle with the code pre-written in the phone booth.  It would have been hard to make that work, given the vandalism and incredibly high levels of civic irresponsibility exhibited by many of the residents of Gotham]. A few times the provider would send a confederate past my location to check me out, and the friend would call back. A handful of times the provider came down to escort me up personally.

I had an updated version of this happen to me last August.  The provider [who appears regularly on Eros-NY.com] asked me to call her from a spot directly across from her location using my cellphone.  When she visually inspected me and saw that I was not Charles Manson [or Tookie] she gave me the exact info.

Technology - what a gift.

...I recently received an email from a woman who is a secretary for a company I have been dealing with for the last 6 months.  She is a total knockout, really a 10 if I have ever seen one but well into her 30's.  My first impression of her was that she may have been a VERY CLASSY provider in her past but has found this high paying job for an upscale company so who knows?  Anyhow, we have established a bit of a jocular interaction by email in which she writes things like...


"...that was such a strange thing for this guy to do, LOL"

or
"...when you come here, be sure to try dining at &&&$$ however YMMV."

or

"...IMHO I think you would prefer staying at the *&%$ hotel which is classier and less pretentious"

Well you get the point.  All these acronyms that I associate with my life with TER and emails with providers.  Does everyone use these terms and I am just a bit out of it or is this part of our hobby world??

at least the early 60's or late 50's when all car an oil company mileage claims were always disclaimed that way.  It was the era before standard EPA testing so everyone did their own tests and the results couldn't usually be reproduced in the real world.  A lot of abuse took place as a result, like Ford's famous mileage claim based on a trip from Denver to somewhere a mile below Denver!  

Anyway, the term has regained popularity in the internet era and probably from the escort business, but I've heard others use it.  

Ask her out for dinner and if she quotes you a rate you'll have your answer.

BUT-get this, when I told her that I was going to need her help on sorting out some contract translations, she asked me if I needed a one or two hour appointment!  Could it just be that I see the provider that 'could be' in all women these days?  TIme for a cold shower.
