Dear Road Show Ladies: To all who travel to LA...

This is a big town.  Not in outlook. Not necessarily in population.

But in Area?  We are as big as many Euro countries!  PLEASE LOOK AT A MAP BEFORE YOU TRAVEL HERE.  When a gentleman caller asks you where you will be staying, figure it out and let him know.

So far from personal experience and imparted anecdotes, I have found the customary fuzziness of some (by no means all but some) ladies to be MADDENING!

Letting someone know that you will be in Marina Del Rey does not mean that LE will descend apon you! It's a big area!  Saying Century City or Beverly Hills does not mean the same.  Newport Beach is AN HOUR from LAX.  Downtown is A HALF HOUR from Santa Monica (assuming NO traffic).  The Valley, while charming, is at least 45 minutes from West Hollywood.   All these areas are large, at least as large as any full town back east, and yet they all make up LA.

We are used to our cars in LA and we will travel for the right offer, but we need to know where you are and when you will be there in order to plan, even if we are making a late date.  You will need a car and a relaiable map (or several) to make outcalls.

to those of you who have been here before, I apologise for stating the obvious.  But to those of you who are here for the first time- think about it.  This is not like most towns with a centre that is central.  We have many centres, and they all have a different character (or none at all -our cross to bear) and are  all far from each other by eastern standards.

So please, when a gentleman asks alot of questions- be prepared to dialogue.  This not a total LE move, but a legit action.  Save your wariness for your other screening (you gots to- our LE are pricks) and get your plan straight.

I personally have only dialogued with a couple of travellers, as I usually am not in that market.  But in conversations with others and the few exchanges I have held, the lack of preparation and knowledge have been annoying to the point dropping the subject, a big loss if one has already shelled cash to get here and engage one of our over priced hotel rooms...

That said?  Get you ass over here! It's a great town with good food and the weather is freakin AWESOME!!!!!!

(BTW- LE comes in all stripes here from the corrupt to the totally corrupt- with plenty of jurisdiction issues as some parts of >LA are incorporated distinctly and some not- so think about that too.)

Sully's message is applicable not only to the travelling women, but to anyone who visits this area.  I cannot speak for Sully, but in the almost 30 years I have lived in this area, I am constantly numbed by the lack of knowledge such a large number of our visitors have about our metropolitan area.

Yes, we have lots of freeways and traffic. (How about Chicago's Edens or the LIE or I-66 in northern Va.)  This is not unique.  We are not a city populated in 1800 relying on water transport and horses.  LA grew up after the auto and bus were invented.  We sprawl.  We have no reason to be cramped.

And, yes, those ARE mountains in our midst.  That is another reason there is sprawl.  Our skyline need not be concrete spires, it is honest to goodness mountain peaks that dissect the city of LA, and continue east for over one hundred miles.

Many say we do not walk.  We do.  Take a look at Melrose or Hollywood Boulevard or San Vicente (the three-mile stretch going from Brentwood to the ocean and the site of the most lovely men and women walking, running or riding in the entire country).  We are friendly.  We have to be.  It is sunny 330 days a year.

Read your guidebook, get out your topo map.  Lastly, unlike any other city I have been in, we have very different climates.  In the summer the San Fernando Valley is 30 degrees hotter than Santa Monica, and the two are only ten miles apart.  Beverly Hills will be ten degrees hotter than Santa Monica.

This IS a great place to visit (but especially to live).

Thank you again Sully.

Private appraisals?  Oh, not that road show...

BTW was I too blunt?  Stating the obvious?  It just suddenly struck me that perhaps the ladies who act fuzzy did not think it through...

As will be the lucky gent who sees you as well....
YES! YES!  (Fireworks go off)

I'll have what she's having.....

My relatives back east think LA is anything north of San Onofre, South of the Tehachapis, east of the ocean and west of the desert.

Of, course I think anything on the other side of the Rockies is the East Coast.

I will be in LA 4-10th and will make sure I have all the logistics straight. I have been there several times so I have it down for the most part. However it's always nice to be reminded.
Kisses to you ~CarleeofArizona
