How ignorant of me, but I always thought Tantra was nothing more than a BJ with her finger up your butt!

OK I'm dumb but what exactly is tantra

Many girls who advertise as Tantra simply provide FBSM (Full Body Sensual Massage).

However, that ain't the real thing.

I don't know if people really "in the know" would agree with this, but I would say that It's a school of thought that leads you to more control over your body and orgasm.

Men who practice tantra can achieve multiple orgasms, as well as have orgasms without ejaculating.

I believe most hobbyists who see Tantrikas do so because the result tends to be a very sensual massage (even before the finish) and a hand job that can last for as long as you want before you climax.

Check out the link below to the web site of Chandra Devi.  One of my ATF's.

I have heard that one before.  From smart, educated people.  It's a common misconception.  That can be an element of a tantric massage (with a HJ, not a BJ), but to think Tantra is nothing more than that is like thinking religion is nothing more than having to go to church/temple/mosque on your respective holy days.  While it can look that way to an outsider, and to some on the inside, there is a lot more to it than that.

Recently, I had one of these tantric massages with the HJ, and it was sooo awesome. I always knew it was more than that, so I asked questions while I was there, and got some good info. Then I started looking up stuff on the web. The link you've provided has a lot of good info, so thanks.

Tantra is the mother of all yogas.  It has been around before recorded history.

AS SUCH... it has many different branches, some in direct opposition to others, has had many different interpretations, and many translations.

There is no 'correct' answer to "What is Tantra?"

It is a full spiritual tradition, encompassing every aspect of life and beyond.  However, in these times, it is often relegated to the status of sexual tips and tricks.  Some branches of Tantra do teach practices which can create extended and multi orgasms - often spiritual in intensity - the Kama Sutra positions, etc.

Now don't get me wrong... the sexual stuff is excellent!  Tantra pratitioners generally try to share what they can in a format that a client will embrace.  This is why you often see FBSM/Tantra, and also explains why there are so many varied experiences with the practice.  Your return is based on your investment.

Right, Sola,

I read somewhere that it is (was?) also considered a dark practice by some people and some practitioners in India are hermits? I remember also seeing something about celibacy as an aspect.

The masseuse I was with was mentioning something about recieving the male's energy from his ejaculate. Energy is released when he comes. Don't know if I'm phrasing correctly, but it's all so interesting.

I've always enjoyed yoga, and this version is great to look into.

Yes, some call Tantra which embraces sexuality and pleasure as "dark".  Some just call it red, or pink.  Dark?  What is that supposed to mean, anyways?!?  It just means that some disapprove and want to color it in a negative light.

Forgive me if this is more than you ask, but:
There are two primary energy 'circuts' through the chakras - the path of liberation (divine, non-physical), and the path of manifestation (physical).  Liberation, the release of the physical body into the etherial is a noble persuit.  But does that mean equal or greater focus on the path of the physical manifestation is "dark" or bad?  No.

Life is about flow, balance, and harmony.

Energy is energy is energy...
there is no dark and light, good and bad, etc.
The translation and manifestation on an individual level is what will transform energy into "evil" or "dark".  Example:  The Good Book... look at the atrocities which have been commited in it's name!  It is not the book, but the translation, manipulation, and interpretation of the words by INDIVIDUALS which make the horrible deeds.

Yes, some practitioners are hermits, and some are in communes of a loving "family"... some are just 'normal' (whatever that means) folk like myself who have found a working perspective and framework for our lives.

As to energy released thru ejaculate... yes and no.  There are two completely different takes on this.  One:  the ejaculate contains your vital life force, as such you should learn to retain it (celibacy, and practices which create injaculation and reabsorption of the seed, etc.); another that this energy should be cycled and used as a cleansing and healing force without the focus on retention.

(shrug)
What's your pleasure?
Again, your return is based on your investment.  What works for you is what works for you.  A good tantrika will tailor her focus to your needs.  There really should NOT be ONE path for everyone.

Sola

I read some people in India considered Tantric practices to be evil. Not that  i do.

I'm appreciating the feedback and info you're giving.

Yes, some people in India consider Tantric practices to be evil.  Some people in the US and European countries consider Pagan and Wiccan practices to be evil... some people consider coffee to be a tool of the devil...

For good insite into Tantra as it is seen today in India I recommend "Tantrika, Traveling the Road of Divine Bliss".  It is a (New York?) newsprint reporter of india heritage who is assigned an article on Tantra and spends the next year or so returning to India to learn about Tantra.
