I didn't post this on the "Politics and Religion" board because it is neither...it is history, and it is a snapshot of both the world then and of some amazing words spoken by a young teenage girl.

All too often we forget - life is just so precious.  As for me?  I thank God that we are relatively free....

It doesn't offend me at all...I expected it. Whether it is pathetic or not, that's a whole other issue.

Back in the heyday of this board a few years ago, there would OFTEN be things that were posted off topic, and it would spur discussion among people who are all here for a similar reason...but that might have thought processes and sensitivities that would allow them to take in, observe, and comment on things outside of that reason, which would allow them to connect in more than a "faceless transactional mode".  I have met a majority of the women I have seen from this forum in this manner, by noticing that there was something about their MIND or their SPIRIT that I found attractive, not just their pictures or their reviews.  I have also, unintentionally, met some of the coolest guys on here that way.

Do you live your entire life going by the rules of every forum you are in?  Do you ever drive faster than the speed limit, even 1 mph?  Do you ever walk outside of a crosswalk?  Do you ever break the law ...well, I guess you do, or you wouldn't be here.

Soooo...I guess it is okay, in your mind (since you didn't complain about THEM), to post a thread on here (and these are just examples on the first page of this board) about Paris Hilton, or looking for a golf teacher, or what celebrity we resemble, or if we are happy (which, BTW, is the PERFECT thread for you to read...see below, 6/5, by Laney...and, Laney, boy do I know what you mean), but it is NOT okay to post a thread about an amazing historical discovery that is a tribute to the human spirit and the sensitivity of a young girl (who mentioned the awakening of her womanhood...so there you go, the thread DOES have something to do with sex, just for you!).

Of course, you could have just seen what my thread was about (which I made VERY clear was not about the hobby) and moved on...but NOOOOOOO, it is more important to attack me for bringing something thought provoking (OMG..how dare I!) here.  Don't bring us down, MSD!

Gosh...I feel so bad about this.  

But not in the way you intended.

Just the thought of her, makes me smile.  There are very few people like Laney, and maybe that is what is wrong with the entire planet - we need more Laney's.  We refer to her as Zlaney!  Why?  well, primarily as that is how my speed dial refers to her.  

Perspective.  sometimes that is what we all need.  Priorities.... they always are in a constant state of reprioritization... as the environment around us changes...

This was a very timely reminder that freedom - to just live- is very precious.  We all need to consider it.

Sorry Terrev, but this board's topic is "general discussion".

We see alot of threads on here that have little or nothing to do with hobbying. Why should this thread be treated any differently?

You're right about one thing: The board used to have some interesting discussions about movies, about history, about life in general. I miss it. I really enjoyed reading this, so thank you MrSelfDestruct.

Speaking of different topics: Have you seen the movies Mr. Foster and Bug? If so, what do you think of them. We'll start a new topic on that.

Besides the relevance is, how Nazi type stupidity wastes perfectly good talent.  So don't be a Nazi.

I will respect your decision to withdraw your post enough to let it drop and not name names, and I will chalk it up to you having a bad morning.  In all honesty, I was surprised to see someone as experienced as you post something like that anyway, so peace out.

I would love to own a copy of this diary... surely they are publishing it? It truly is a very important historical document.

Now, more than ever, it's vital that we remember the Holocaust. There are few survivors left now, to bear witness, and documents like these serve to keep the truth alive.

Thank you for sharing this. I know some feel it's off topic, but I think it IS good to talk about things that are important to the human condition and spirit. I'm tired of Paris, and which star is going into rehab this week. It's nice to talk about things that are important.

P.S. For some, this may seem unrelated, but has anyone seen "V for Vendetta"?

Stories like this break my heart and strengthen my resolve. Over the years I've been able to ignore Cambodia and Rwanda, but I'll be damned if I'll turn away from Darfur. Thanks for giving me a little kick in the right direction.

Someone will post something off topic because they feel it will be of interest,someone will question the right for it to be there, but many will appreciate it still and thank the poster for placing it, and then the moderator will say let's stay on topic. So perhaps for special subjects such as this, it's not minded by most to sometimes go off topic. Right now is the time of year of D-Day in 1944 and the liberation of the concentration camps in 1945, so it could be on some people's minds.

I can remember (Lived in NJ at the time...) the story of the young girl who wished to take her brother's place after his tragic death in an auto accident.  This is a very well done screenplay... produced by Elisabeth Shue.

The story focuses on this girls struggle with both "coming of age" and dealing with, at that time, the male dominated sport scene.... Timely given the Imus storm.  

I saw the movie, on the night of its general release, in a theater, with my 10 yr old soccer playing daughter... in an empty theater -- while scores of kids and parents watched more trivial pablum dealing with fictitious issues of no importance or consequence....

Truly an enlightening experience..... I hope 'Gracie' fares as good as it deserves....

These two movies can't be compared objectively. Apples and oranges. V harkens back to "1984" and its crippling effect on society as a whole. It brings the idea of revolution back into vogue.

"Gracie" tells a personal story of singular triumph. Both movies are inspirational, but very different in subject matter. These movies cannot be compared due to these differences. I personally prefer "V For Vendetta" as it tends to ring true and I can personally relate to how those citizens feel. Just because one is a true story, that does not make it better.
