weigh in on this new format for the discussion boards! I have waited until now to comment because I wanted to give it some time and become familiar with it, but time is up now!
When I am on the road, which is most of the time, I don't have time to search the entire board for new threads, which I might be interested in seeing! Today I came to the Las Vegas board and EVERY thread on the first page was one I had already seen, although there must be some newer posts on each thread which I haven't seen yet. I REFUSE to go to the second page to see what new threads might be there! I just don't have that much time! If there is a thread which I might be interested in seeing any new posts within, I NEVER had a problem finding that thread under the old system! So I think this "bumping" system totally sucks!
If, as I understand, the girls are not getting as many hits on their web sites from TER since this started, I guess I am not the only person who feels this way! If the new system is hurting business, TER is in jeapardy, I think, of losing its status as the premiere board for the hobby! I hope this new system doesn't last long!
Hope it doesn't last long at all! But, it will. I think they are determined to make it fly. Meanwhile, mods are angry, providers are angry, hobbyists like yourself don't have the time, nor the patience to deal with the new format. All in all, it blows! I think they are trying to work out the "bumping" glitch. I get frustrated myself. Bet that's obvious! lol
I agree. The funny thing is that I participate in lots of online bulletin boards that work the way new system here does - threads get bumped when a new comment is added. The problem here isn't just that the threads get bumped, it's that the layout is so badly composed it doesn't support the functionality. They need to either adopt a true bulletin board format or lose the bumping function altogether.
Major league negative feature that has to go! Last week, I received a PM from a lady advising me to edit a post I made in late July. Great idea, but the edit feature (which at one time did not have a time limit) expires a short time after you have posted. Add to that the fact that the post in question was made a month ago, and should have been buried. But, someone added commentary to that old thread a month after the fact, and it went right back to page one. This is not a good feature...I can see this leading to trainwrecks that could go on for days or weeks, and lead to many headaches for the mods. Also, ladies can ask that clients comment to their ad posts from the week before...right back to page one, thus effectively allowing them to circumvent the one ad post a week rule.
Also, TER should retain the old posting feature of allowing the last 25 threads, and all subsequent posts, to be visible on the first page of regional and general boards, and highlight those that the viewer has not yet read. This was one of the best features of the classic version, and one that most of us want retained.
Communication between the programming folks and the user base has been almost as good as the new site, but rumor has it that they are working on improvements. I promise to share as much as I can, as soon as I have solid info.
Please riddle me this if possible? Why is it you or any moderators should be responsible to "share as much as" you can, "as soon as I have solid info"?
Any other business that would ignore their customer base the way TER administration has chosen to do, would be loosing business left and right. And, the fact is, that many customers will not choose to return once they have left. For new customers who have never seen the old classic they may like it. For old disgruntled customers (to which there are many right now) can ruin a reputation and turn new business away.
Its the old axiom, one happy customer will maybe tell 1 or 2 people. 1 disgruntled customer will tell 10 other people plus all his immediate friends.
This only goes to prove again that the general attitude is that we are the 800lb gorilla with 667,147 reviews and the discussion forums do not bring in any revenue. Well, first off probably only 100,000 of the reviews present any real value for any number of reasons, not the least of which is age. Also, it would be foolish to think that discussion forum participants are not buying pussy or selling it as well.
Again, as I mention before making announcements, by admin not the moderators as proxies, to all the boards giving everyone an update as to where they are at, a list of the complaints they are aware of and that they are working hard to resolve them, would go a long, long way in customer service and keeping patrons on board. Patrons that might even learn to like their new format. This ruthless don't care/don't tell is a prime carry over from previous owners, if they are previous.
Personally, I have been learning to use the new system and do not have many issues other than the bumping. However, I am not a provider obviously and am not hi-tech using mobile systems. I use my phone to answer it to GET BUSINESS FROM MY CUSTOMERS.

As far as page hits Smarty, there are two versions of TER now www. and classic. Both of those sources need to be looked at to get a total page view number.
If the few posts (so far) in the new thread above are any indication, it would appear that the membership will be pleased with these changes by a landslide. I know I like them. Thanks again.
