Email hacked!

Most of you have hobby emails, which is a great thing. I hope this illustrates why you should continue to have a hobby email and use it ONLY for hobbying!

With my clients' permission and knowledge, I kept their emails so I could tell them when I had a special or when I was going to have an available incall (since I didn't maintain a permanent one).

Unfortunately, someone hacked my hobby email yesterday. I'd planned to close it last Friday, but forgot. The only reason I knew that it was hacked was because I had my own regular email in the contacts. Imagine my surprise when I saw 'Jolene Tucker' in my inbox since I hadn't sent myself anything. Someone got into my hobby email! I closed it today but I'm afraid the damage is done.

Even more unfortunate is that I have no idea how they did it so I couldn't prevent it. I have security systems on my computer, but this had to be an out and out hack.

Keep safe!

Some were shut down by the ISP...  My ATF had this happen.  Some were cracked (like Sarah Palin's yahoo account) by using readily available information to use the lost password tools.
Very recently another Fav lady had her email cracked.  Twice, I've gotten ED drugs ads from a "Canadian" pharmacy from her account.
It is very hard to stop all attacks...  I suggest you run your AntiVirus scans again.

I have a dedicated email account for communicating with providers.  But after seeing a very nice lady twice, I had a level of comfort with her and I sent her some emails on my primary account, which has my real name on it.

She sends out announcement emails about every other month, but this month she forgot to list everyone as a blind copy so her entire client mailing list was visible to everyone.  In effect, she outed all of her clients to the world.

I've not only been flooded with endless spam, I've been receiving emails from some group that has posted her client list one the web so everyone could send us emails about the dangers of seeing internet escorts!

This all happened because I let my guard down with a trusted lady,  and being human, she eventually made a mistake.  The lesson is to never, ever, give out personal information.

pre-flighted and post-flighted the aircraft they were flying in. It was called "Idiot Proofing," because, eventually everyone, at one time or other, is going to over-looked a problem. Unfortunately, in the hobby, there's not much of a system for Idiot Proofing, so each guy has to cover his own backside and not assume the ladies will always protect their anonymity, no matter how diligently they may try.

early in my hobby carreer, I used my regular email once.  Years later, I got an email from the provider...  I'd only seen her once.  She was wanting to know how I knew her as she was cleaning up her address book.  I was not about to see her again & asked her to delete that address.

If you don't have a SO & can afford some risk...  still use a hobby account, but set it up to forward to your regular email.  IF you decide to answer, log in to the hobby account.  I go many days between messages to my hobby account & it is a PITA to keep checking.

NEVER log into your hobby account when anyone else is arround.  Always log off...  if you step away for even a second.  Set your computer to clear on shut down.  Never turn over a running computer to someone else...  "Ooops, my bad!!  Have to wait to reboot!"

Don't know that is so much a hack job as a virus or trojan sapmmer.  I caught mine real quick and changed my password and deleted my address book, and that has taken care of the problem for me.  I am sure you have a more extensive phone book than I.  Sounds like you opened an atachment that you shouldn't have.

Changed my password, ran a number of security checks, and all's been good for the last few weeks.

I think it's more of a spammer than a hacker. In either case, run thru your deal so it doesn't do any real damage.

You are dealing with a spammer.  Have you checked your outbox to see if you are still sending out spam?  Also contact your email provider and see what they suggest.

Good idea to enable save SENT email!  I'd not have thought of it.  Then check the SENT folder to see if it is still happening.

saying those actions wouldn't stop that? I don't want to have to reopen it again, but I will if you think it'll make a difference.

If you can still access the account, then it wasn't taken over in that sense.  If you are willing to delete the account (loss of all addresses unless you move them to another address) then no one else can use it.  Seriously, changing the password...  to a strong password...   should keep anyone out...  assuming you computer does not have trojans, viruses, spyware, key loggers
