STD's via BBBJ or DATY ???????

FYI Just saw this on another board and thought I'd post this here:

I saw my MD tonite, and he indeed confirmed that I HAD caught a sexually transmitted virus (name=ADENOVIRUS). This was transmitted via unprotected oral sex (BBBJ).

It HEAVILY affected my urethra (hence the burning during urination). It also HEAVILY affected my eyes. Although my throat was not affected, the Doc said that it could have also affected the throat.

The condom was intact, hence I did indeed get it via BBBJ.

The doctor took a blood sample, and said that if he didn't call back in 2 days, then that would mean that everything is OK...But it seems as if i'm out of the proverbial "woods". The MD was even playful and joking with me...

I have been FEELING 100% better for about the last 12 days. the virus has left my body.

here are the official stats:

HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS=negative
CHLAMYDIA=negative
URINE CULTURE=negative
URINE ANALYSIS=normal
**ADENOVIRUS= POSITIVE**

Adenovirus is the cause of the common cold. It can sometimes cause symptoms of urethritis (painful urination) or conjunctivitis (inflammation of the lining around the eye) totally unrelated to any sexual activity.  

It is not really a Sexually Transmitted Disease in that it usually spreads via the upper respiratory tract and was more likely spread by kissing or sneezing or coughing.  I suspect you had systemic infection from the usuall transmission paths that manifested with your unusual but not uncommon symptoms.  In other words, it was likely not directly related to the BBBJ.

I was unaware  there was a test for the common adenovirus. What is it a Western Blot or PCR?

I suspect he's referring to blood tests for IgG and/or IgM antibodies.  Not really helpful since they are postive in so many people.  Same problem with HSV testing for antibodies.  Most people have been exposed and have positive antibodies.

If he's referring to cultures, then accuracy is not high.

Adenovirus is associated with the common cold.  It's NOT considered an STD.

I have a question:  how do you KNOW the condom was intact?  Did you save the condom in question and run it through a battery of tests?  :)
