I recently was re-configuring some stuff on my Yahoo home page and now their "Yahoo personals..Matches" are showing up in my e-mail box. Yahoo wants me to shell out $19.95/month so that I can e-mail these "teasers" they send me. Lets see... $20 so I can e-mail a possibly fridgid, attitude ridden closet man hater in hopes that they respond and will agree to going out on a date where I will drop a small fortune only to hear those melodic words "Can't we just be friends" Now compare that to TER which I pay $20/month for and am overwhelmed with clear sexy pictures, bios and reviews of beautiful hot, sexual women that will quickly respond to my e-mail or phone call and although only occasionally become an actual "friend" after our date(s) I can count on the date being a sexual rodeo in the first order.
I wonder if the hobby could the start of a cultural change? Maybe as significant as "the summer of love?"
With the internet, many guys are doing the same comparison as yours, and many of those guys have already been emotionally bruised and brutalized in the current dating scene. The only thing holding them out would be false religion or false pride, and there's a lot of that. But if the hobby works out successfully for the guys who get in it, there won't be much holding the rest out.
It will be interesting to see the political response if it breaks this way, because it will have major social implications.
