It seems like every provider I contact is asking for a booking fee aka partial payment before meeting up.  Are all of these just scams or are they for real?  In previous years I've never had anyone ask for this but recently I've had 5+ girls ask for a partial payment before meeting up.  What's the deal?

Such fees have been discussed a lot here and the general feeling is, no one should pay them. There are still plenty of escorts who don't require them and you should find those.

I've never heard of such a thing and never been asked for one. Plenty of ladies don't operate that way and they're not hard to find.

Literally 100% of girls I've contacted are asking for them in the last month.  Anyone can just post a fake ad and ask for payments so I feel like they're scams.

I have run into three "providers" in a two week period who asked for money up front. All three were scams and EVERY board recommends you do NOT pay anything upfront. Chances are 90% or better you are being scammed, especially if you are trying to arrange an outcall.

Many boards are so full of scammers that I don't trust most of them anymore.  I have noticed that many, many ads have nearly identical text and wording except for contact info, so read carefully and if that happens, it's a scam. also look for stilted and grammatically incorrect wording and phrases because many scammers do not speak English as a native language.

In other words, when the board posts a warning recommending you do not pay upfront, pay attention to the warning instead.

I tried to book with a very well known, very well respected provider I have known for over 10 years just last week, her appointment lady asked for a deposit, which has never been asked for in the past, so I just discontinued the pursuit.

has been discussed on countless threads.    DO NOT PAY in advance.  done .. over .. if the lady insists .. move on .. even if its someone you have already met.    it just doesn't work in the hobby.   as long as you show up with cash in hand that's all there is to it.

do some guys flake .. yeah imagine it happens but then that guy gets blacklisted on the girl's boards plus she will never see him again.    besides i remember my days in retail sales.  i would talk to someone for hours,  give him/her all this valuable info,  after which i get a "i'll be back to buy"  and never hear again.     when someone actually did show up be called them bebacks because it was such a rare event.    so girls welcome to the real world, you have to deal with a percentage of flakes.

some girls take this too far .  i once canceled on a girl 25 hours in advance for a simple 1 hr session.   she then posted on the girl's site that i was a cop, an abuser .. all kinds of things.

well a beginner is probably not going to be able to handle Mya anyway  LOL ...  yes one has to work their way up the ranks before booking a top lady like her.

i do get the requiring a deposit for someone with no background, that makes sense, point taken.    i think its the fact that others requiring a deposit from a gentleman who is easily verifiable that is getting the push back.

and i would never say i am a fit white male ...  would never lie like that  LOL

Are you suggesting that as a part of an undercover operation, a cop cannot pay you and then bust you? You might want to rethink that.  Have you ever heard undercover police buying drugs from dealers? Happens all the time..

Now, the question is, are they Scams? Some are and some aren't. Who knows but I for one will NEVER give a Booking or Deposit Fee, it seems that in the last few years, this has been the "it thing"...It's not my style to do any upfront payment and if someone refuse to see me based on that, so be it, I'll get over it and move on...
Man, it seem that lately this is the "it thing"....going back in time this wasn't the thing it is now...I'm too old and stubborn to help perpetuate a trend that I'm not into...ya dig....Now get off my FUCKING LAWN...lol

maybe the next TER home page poll should be ..    "would you pay in advance, a deposit or booking fee"      Yes / Never / Depends

LE has to establish sex for money.  If they just send a deposit without explicit agreement of sex, then they haven't fulfilled the necessary linkage.  They'd have to show up and then get the provider to verbally link the money to the sex act.  But why would she?  I think LE sending  deposits is very unlikely due to the improbability of getting all the pieces necessary for a conviction.

The only time I'd even consider it would be if I was relocating a high end provider to me for an extended period of time.

I agree completely, cops try to get the most out of their resources, just like tricks I suppose. lol And sending deposits is hardly a good use of their resources, just like tricks, right? ROFLMFAO

Has anyone EVER heard of LE sending a deposit. I know the old saying about "never saying never" but I honestly can't imagine an LE vice squad ever being so fucking dumb. I wish I could say the same thing about my mongering brethren.

Depends on the state. As far as I remember, NY and CT (for instance) statutes only require "intent". It's not much of a stretch to establish intent based upon a lady's website and me showing up to meet her with the cash.

The whole thing about putting the cash in an envelope, and putting it down and not looking at it, talking about it, etc is pretty silly. I've even seen ladies who state that clients should write the word "gift" on the envelope - useless.

Again, it depends on the state.
