In reality the categories offered are poor:  "South American" is based upon geography.  A lady from SA can be blck, white, native american, etc.  The same is actually true for ladies from the Caribean.  I'd say take your best shot and pick what you think is the best representation.  I think I would tend to pick "Latina", but no matter what you pick some will think you picked correctly, some will think you picked wrong.  Don't sweat it.

[PS:  I have a Japanese-Irish friend who I could never figure out howto identify  I just know she is great fun to be with! ]

Should Cubans and Dominicans be categorized as Latina or South American?

I just categorize them generally as "Hispanic".

And most people categorize me as African American because of the color of my skin. Yet they categorize my brother, sisters, and mother as Latina because they are lighter complected then myself. The funny thing is we all speak the same three languages except for my younger sister who also speaks latin.

I have just learned to let everyone know that I am just me. You can label me how you want to but at the end of the day I am just plain ole Andrea Davis.

That's not a TER category.

....part of that is puerto rican (yes we come in black), call me south american and we might have some problems.

Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans are Caribbean latinas...not south american.   So search for Latina.

.....you can be of the black race and not be african-american and you'll still be classified as such because that's um all they've got.
