Email addresses are not displayed to anyone, nor can someone see to what username an alias belongs.
If a provider has their profile linked to their TER account, she can enter an email address to see if there is a member that has registered with that email. This gives them the ability to check WhiteLists (they can also check the WhiteList by searching on the username).
I have always wondered if if some of the verification systems out there like p411, for instance, give providers the view of comments on clients that the client cannot see question? Any providers out there that can respond to this?
In terms of p411 its just the info you provide on your profile. Nothing more nothing less. That's why references are so important. Now there are some extra screening methods out there but if I told you that I'd have to... well... you get the idea lol.
