Just opened another Christmas card that was blank, as in, the person who sent it to me didn't add any kind of message to it. It was one of those cards that you go online to do, putting in a bunch of pictures of your family adventures, etc, etc. Don't how long it took to do that, but probably at least an half hour I'd guess. Then when you add on addressing the envelope, and putting on a stamp, that's some effort. Why then, not at least write something on the back? IMO, if you can't do that, why even send the card at all?
