"What do you mean you are charging me an extra $20? I only withdrew $40, not $60, and I even have the receipt to prove it."
.
"What are you asking? I was in a hurry! I grabbed the money, shoved it in my pocket with other bills and left. I didn't bother to count it. An hour later, I bought a donut and pulled a 20 out of my pocket. An hour after that, I bought a can of soda and pulled some more cash out of my pocket."

"If your machine made a mistake, it isn't my fault."

Adding to a recent thread about the vicissitudes of these little bandits, I had a happy experience for once, however briefly.
Recently I found myself in a position of having to use an unfamiliar ATM in a hotel lobby (Long story, don't ask.) and found that it only would distribute a maximum of $40, or so it said. So I inserted my card and told it to fork over the $40, and it then began to spit out one, two, three? Jacksons! Yup, that's what it did do! I checked the receipt to see what it said: Yup, just $43,50 debited.
Even with the $3,50 service charge, this was the best pay out I ever got from a one arm (or no arm) bandit and began to look forward to a lucrative run as I started to reinsert my card.
However, it was not to be. The screen on the machine at once started to resemble an EKG for someone in the throes of thrombosis. I was even expecting it to self-destruct a la the rogue probe named Nomad for you Trekies who might remember it from The Old Series, the Changeling. Instead it just shut itself down. Game over.
I must say, that it was a rare moment of satisfaction, if brief. And I checked my bank account. So far no attempt to claw back the Jackson.
For those unfamiliar with the Star Trek reference, I have a link below. The good part starts at about 3 minutes in.
"A new warning tied to your money: Hackers are targeting ATMs with a scheme that causes them to spit out cash like a slot machine that hit a jackpot. The Secret Service is heading up an investigation. NBC’s Tom Costello reports for TODAY from Washington, D.C. ..."
