I think that's a good point and it makes a lot of sense. Our culture sees men as pathetic if they can't get any, and even more pathetic if they pay for it. We also live in a culture where men are encouraged to direct their frustrations outwardly and to never turn it in on themselves (unlike women, who are taught to turn everything in on themselves and to never direct their feelings onto others).
To be honest, I can understand if a guy saw a few ladies that lacked in the looks/attitude department and he then took it upon himself to do more research and/or pay more money, or just quit the hobbying game entirely if it wasn't what he expected. What I can't understand is repeatedly putting your hand on the stove and then getting mad at the stove because you got burned over and over again. What's the term for that? Oh yeah, insanity.

It bothers me as well - gratuitous insults depress the general tone of the board. I offer the following characterizations of why some guys post this stuff:
1. The drunk - The poster is drunk/under the influence.
2. The rug merchant - The poster believes that if he insults the product, it will be cheaper. This is an age old tactic in bargaining - people have been buying rugs for millennia this way. "I wouldn't let my dog cr*p on this POS - I'll give you $50". Unfortunately, that model assumes that the rug has to be sold and that the seller is independent of the transaction. Politeness aside, think about what would happen to steak prices if the butcher threw out the hamburger because no one ate it..... Some of these trolls may be doing you a favor though I doubt that's what they have in mind...
3. The troll - Good to get a rise out of the manginas/white knights on the board. Sometimes they do squeal so entertainingly....

There are hurt and damaged men. Maybe from failed relationships, perhaps from the lack of ever finding a relationship; maybe a job lost to a woman, who knows? Central to this hurt or damage are feelings of anger or resentment towards women, or even simple misogyny. Perhaps they see this world as the only means to fulfill their need for sex or longing for intimacy. The fact that they are here fills them with resentment and self-loathing. This is projected onto providers.
I believe the comments you see are brought out into the open rather than kept bottled up inside these men because on the forum there is some anonymity, and the perception that they are among others who will understand, accept and identify with them.
On the other hand, I believe there are far, far more men (yes, even here!) who do not behave as you mention and who do not fall into the dysfunctional mold I describe.
Also, to be fair, I see some very similar behavior in some female posters - and presume some similar motivational forces are in play. Again, I would see these as being in the minority of women who post, or with whom I've met.
This is of course just my opinion, and I've got damn-all to prove it. So I won't even try.
Resenting financial strife and possibly poverty, some folk spend their entire lives accumulating more and more wealth, much more than they'll ever need. They simply can't stop. But it's less any passion for financial success, and more embitterment over how they were treated when impoverished. Same pattern.
And at least in one culture I'm familiar with, alcoholism is a hated plague, but when loved ones fall prey to it, and there seems to be no chance of them sobering up, some totally abstaining women suddenly turn to drink in order to cope. Very sad. Very senseless.
