Girls expelled for charging boys to watch them kiss
MONTREAL - Two Grade 7 girls were "encouraged" to leave their school after they were caught charging money for a public kissing session in the school cafeteria.
The 12-year-olds charged boys $5 to watch the lunch-hour show late last year.
The father of one of the girls said his daughter was basically expelled for her actions.
"She was thrown out of school," the unidentified man said after calling a CJAD phone-in show.
"She wasn't allowed back to school. She was told she had to go to a different school."
The man said the girl's parents agreed to get counselling for their daughter.
The students apparently got the idea for the kiss after watching Britney Spears and Madonna kiss during last year's MTV awards.
this i would've expected in the US but not Canada, especially not forward-thinking liberal Montreal (their only backward-thinking conservatism is their ingrained xenophobia)
what these girls did smacks of juvenile "providerism" i guess (hence being topical) but ultimately i blame Madonna & Britney & Christina & Flavour-o'-the-Month(TM) for teaching young girls that being a strumpet is cool and potentially lucrative (it certainly made the musical harlots tons of money)
Are you complaining that the Unholy Triumverate gave girls 'round the world a lesson in self- promotion, thereby inspiring at least these girls into juvenile "providerism" and, ultimately, others into real adult entertainment in one way or another when they are of legal age, when you yourself are a patron of said entertainment?
This is in no way an endorsement of what these girls did, but sexual curiosity is natural, and I would think it is hard for young girls to not adopt some of the materialism of our age and charge for something like this when there is so much of it in the adult world. Kids are eventually going to find out about things, no matter how much they are shielded.
Having said that, I think the girls should have at least been suspended, if the school wants to maintain a semblence of discipline on its campus. If what happened at this school was "fair and balanced" (oooo, where DID I get that phrase?), any boys who were involved should have been punished as well. Might as well prep them for the real world, too.
i AM in fact saying that (pretty much) -- "that the Unholy Triumverate gave girls 'round the world a lesson in [providerism] when you yourself are a patron of said entertainment?"
the thing is that when it comes to this business and in particular its women of "malleable virtue" men enjoy a very convenient double-standard: we act/think/preach as if what providers do is not what we'd want our sisters and daughters to do, yet we're the first to fight for our right to f*ck someone else's sister or daughter (or mother!) -- i don't know about anyone else, but i've learned to live with this double-standard, nay even enjoy it. but i admit, i'd be philosophically (if not morally) troubled if i was the woman in this exchange (that's why this business can psychologically scar women who are not strong and centered)

as for these underaged girls and what they did, i don't blame them one jot. i don't think they should've received anything as severe as probation even. maybe send them home for the day to think about what they did, that's all -- it's society at large to blame (especially Madonna et al) not these gullible young kids
I agree, I don't see anything wrong with what they did, as far as my personal morals go. I only feel they should be suspended because it would be in keeping with "societal laws and standards". If anything, I feel that the boys are the ones who should be reprimanded. I mean, if I was the father of one of those boys, I would be saying "Son, it is one thing to pay and get something in return, but if you wan't to pay and just watch, you are going the wrong direction in life!"
I am probably going to get a lot of negative feedback on this one, but personally, I think that adolescent sexual awareness, with responsible corresponding behavior, should be encouraged, both in girls and boys, and that if we removed the stigma of sex being wrong until you are 18 and then it is okay, we as a society would be a lot better off. I am sure many won't agree with that, or will ask if I have children (I don't), but that is my honest opinion, regardless.
Having taught at that age level, I definitely think that the school had to take some action to discourage such behavior in school, although i would have disciplined the payers as well as the payees. I think that schools have to draw some lines between what may be ok outside of school and what is appropriate in-school behavior. Expulsion/exclusion, however, is inordinately extreme. Also, if no intervention occurred at this point, I guarentee that the public display of sexual conduct would escalate.
that "sugar and spice and everything nice" shit doesn't cut it here. :P
Besides, it says very specifically in the article that the students "got the idea" (to put on the "show" and charge for it) after watching the Madonna-Britney-Christina kiss. I am sure they boys had been asking for stuff way before that happened. :P
I think the punishment is all out of proportion to the crime here. Expulsion, sure, for beating someone up or something. Not for a little lunchtime mischief for heaven's sakes!
But it's typical, our society freaks about sex much moreso than it does about violence. I'd rather see them KISSING then see someone getting their skull bashed in... something I saw in my own upper middle class cafeteria a few times.
