but a mouse has no more chance to defend itself against a cat, than a seal does against a man with a club. That cat is also no more likely to eat its prey than a human hunter. What difference does it make whether the hunter eats his prey himself or if some other person ultimately does?
Moby Dick is a work of fiction, in the real world nature is cruel. Fair fight? In nature, you've got to be kidding. In nature thaere are predators and there are prey, it's never a fair fight. Big fish eat little fish, etc, etc.
It is mind boggling that this sh&t is still going on. Between global warming, being clubbed to death and long range rifles, I wonder if these seals still have a chance?
I guess it is fair to ask the Canadians to put a stop to this, but then (forgive the politics on the general discussion board) they have a right to ask the USA to do something about dumping millions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere which is going to kill these animals eventually by melting the ice plates needed for the survival of the pups.
Oh dear.I hope I get my new passport in time.
I am supposed to go up there and see what I can do about it this year.
I already don't buy anything from Canada.
It's not like there are too many and they should be hunted like deer.
I don't have a lot of sympathy for deer but at lest they don't get bashed. I wouldn't approve of bashing one or any other animal.
It is cowardly and inhumane.
I'll start working on some spells and hope that will be enough.
I wonder if I will be arrested if I try to hamper the hunters.
I will have to have enough big ,strong men with me.
Hmm,I wonder how I can convince them to go to Canada???
Is they were told to do it humanely... And they aren't even shooting to kill. Just wounding them. Dragging them while they are alive! PROBABLY SKINNING THEM WHILE THEY ARE ALIVE TOO! It just makes me sick. Do they kill other animals this way too?
Unfortunately, that is just too sad and fucking disgraceful to even comment on. All I can say, is that my mother was my age during the civil rights movement and she made me fully aware of how to react when something inhumane was being done to anyone or anything. So I guess by nature, my first reaction after watching that sad, sad video was to sign the pledge. Because even though I detest seafood, I still would never participate in the purchase of it and I would like to show my support.
Unfortunately, yes they do kill other animals this way. I'm a volunteer in a large aquarium, and we have been shown way too many videos very similar to this one. It really sucks.
Why is this legal? I'm not disgusted because they are such cute furry animals because if I saw one in person I'd probably run away so fast! But I just hate it when the government grants permission for something so heinous...but doesn't monitor it! Is shooting to wound humane?
No, Essence, shooting to wound is anything but humane. There are, sadly, not enough of us to shout "Stop This". Education is our only hope. If we educate enough of our young people on what we've done to this planet, hopefully things will get better. This is why I volunteer my time at an aquarium, to educate the people who can change things.
Im an emotionally level person, but the video crushed my heart, and the tears that I havnt felt for quite a few years, wet my face.
It's horrible how cold-hearted some people are. How can they look into those beautiful big black eyes, that are full of love, and then brutalize such intelligent animals? Seals are proven to be very intelligent, and many cultures feared them for their magical powers. The Selkie from Ireland, or Silkie from Scotland, and many other countries had their version of the seal that climbs on the rocks, to bask in the sun, and takes off the fur to reveal a beautiful naked women, with the most beautiful big black eyes, and If a man could catch a Selkie, she would belong to him forever. But the man would love his Selkie, and never harm her.
Don't these men comprehend that they're killing thousands of beautiful lives, destroying an environmental necessity, pissing on ancient folklore, and there are just so many other reasons why it's WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
Ill sign the petition and not eat Canadian Seafood. Karma will certainly dish out it's justice upon those who laugh at their seal victims.
I know the mind of fisherman. I have a friend from Ireland who's from an island that survives on fishing income. He's a kind man to humans, who'd do all he could for human welfare, but for animals and fish, he has a different opinion: they dont feel, think, or know.
I used to go out in his boat, and be dropped off on little islands for the day. But to get to the islands, I first had to ride along, as they lifted nets and cages from the ocean, and emptied crabs and other fish into the boat. He'd smash the crabs on the side of the boat, and put the broken bodies into lobster cages, then lower the trap into the water. Fishing is violent, cold, and there's no emotion shown in it. Fishermen dont think fish feel any pain, so they feel no remorse to kill for income. As they see a fish or shark as an unfeeling bit of mass... they use that same "non-emotion" to take the lives of other species. I saw the cold killing not just stop at fishing, I also saw the island fishermen throw newborn puppies and kittens into bags and toss them to the sea, shoot ravens and magpies from the sky, shoot a dog who attacked a chicken, and a sheep who couldnt birth, and here we see that the fisherman, are now killing seals.
I understand that everyone has to make money to survive, and depending on where you're living, you may have limits to the ways you can earn income . The fishermen in Canada, maybe have no other way to make money, but I think alot of foreigners go to work there every year just for the hunt. Ive heard of students who fly over just to work a couple months in Canada and Alaska every winter. There is alot of money to be made in the industry of murdering animals.
sad sad sad

...even their main source of income but more like their "luxury"kill! If you don't think your boycott would make a difference, click on to see just how many restaurants alone have boycotted them & the business they are losing.

I was explaining how they start by killing fish, crabs, lobster, and learn to not feel anything when they kill. This way of not feeling regret, is what can lead to their killing of more intelligent creatures, such as seals. They had to start small before they went big.
I didnt read about the restaurants. Thats brilliant news. I certainly do hope we can help end the massacre! At the moment I support a charity called "Defenders of Wildlife" that is trying to stop the arial shooting of wolves in Alaska, where small planes chase the wolves, and run them to exhaustion, then shoot them. I also help a charity called Oceana. So many animals have gone extinct, and my goal when I "retire" is to buy some land and open a reserve for endangered animals. I've always been an animal lover, and will do all I can to protect them.

But towards all those who brutally best, torture, & murder helpless creatures. butcher
I grew up with animals. And I always defended them. The main fights I had growing up were when I defended animals being cruely treated. Just the other day, my neighbor, who is a dog walker, employs these young guys to help walk the dogs, and I saw one of them kick a lovely little dog that was perfectly behaved! The dog did nothing wrong. He was just a happy little dog that belonged to probably some doting UES millionare. That young guy kicked the dog for no reason, and I flipped. Now Im a wee girl, slight at only 115 pounds, but I couldn't stand there and see that sweet little dog get beaten by some young punk. That's why I dont go to where the seals are. I really would be afraid of my temper. I'd probibly lie on top of a seal to protect it. Maybe get clubbed myself, but if theres a way for me to go, Id like it to be in the defense of one who is weak and victimized, me protecting those who cant protect themselves.

The stories you've told are the very reason I will not own a lethal weapon!
Only species capable of extreme cruelty and the ability to justify and rationalize is ................
but we are far from the only species capable of extreme cruelty. have you ever seen a fly in a spider's web? or a cat with a mouse? or a dog with a kitten?...I'm sure you get my point by now.
They dont use toys to kill their prey like humans do, and they eat what they kill, they dont go marketing it to the highest bidder. I love the story of moby dick the whale who fought for his life and won. That was a fair fight. Basically, if humans put down weapons and fight tooth and nail with the animal he hopes to kill, then a fight would be fair, and no animal would go extinct since not as many would be killed at one time. Weapons make it easy and fast to kill. Animals have no chance to defend themselves, and that makes the hunter pathetic. If he used his bare hands and killed, I have no conflict with that. But a man with a gun or weapon just looks so rediculous. The only gun I want to know about Is the one between his legs.
but a mouse has no more chance to defend itself against a cat, than a seal does against a man with a club.
Big fish eat little fish, etc, etc.
moby dick is based on a true story- google it.
mice have legs to run, and soft flexible bodies to squeeze thru openings that a cat cant fit. And the cat doesnt carry a bit of cheese and a mouse trap, just in case that mouse is a fast runner. The baby seal is basking quietly on ice and looks with slow surprise up at a man with a weapon. His mother was quick to escape, but the baby trusts too much... All babies are vulnerable and helpless. All babies.
im thinking ur arguing just to argue. If u want to know facts, you go to google.com and do some reading. Wisdom comes either as a natural gift you're born with, sometimes inherited from a parent, or tenderly evolved over time and experience. I wish you both wisdom and information, but i wont get into petty arguments over cat and mouse info.

Here we go bashing the hunter again. I do not condone smashing seals in the head especially baby seals, But don't bash legal hunting. If it wasn't for legal hunting, there would be a lot more animals extinct. Google it!!!!
to argue with someone who has a "cause". Fine you win, animals don't actually kill each other in the most heinous ways, they all live in Disneyland in perfect harmony, just like it says in the PETA manual.
Yep, if it weren't for those nasty humans life on earth would be a perfect utopia of animals living in peace and tranquility. The lions would give the zebra plenty of warning to give him a fair chance, the spider would no longer use their "toys" I mean webs to catch flies and then suck the life out of them while they're still alive and suffering. No none of these thing would happen if it weren't for us evil humans.
I think maybe I should go kill myself now so I won't further disturb other species by my existence. Maybe a nice family of worms will find a nice home in my rotting carcass.

They just don't get it do they GG?
sensitivity is one thing, idiocy is another. Nature is a cruel place, humans don't cause all suffering in the world.Let them try throwing a kitten in with a pack of dogs, hungry or not, they'll tear it to pieces. The same with a cat, any cat from a house cat to a lion, you put prey in front of them and they'll kill it out of boredom even on a full stomach.
Oh well, I know this is an effort in futility, I guess I'll guess let them go back to their fantasyland world, where the lamb lays down with the wolf, and lives to see the morning. ROFL
...but some of the above posts have caused me to question even that.....
