She slices up carrots and waits for her cell phone to ring.
This month things are slow,
Why is that?  Doesn’t know.
So she fills up the crock pot and handles a half-dozen things.

Her daughter needs braces, her son’s sports insurance is due.
There’s no ex around,
But the funds will be found.
Everyone turns to mom ‘cause mom always knows just what to do.

She pours coffee while wiping the drainboard and, yes, IT’S THE PHONE!
“HEL-lo, why of COURSE
I remember your voice!
You say you’re in town for the night and you’re all on your own?”

She DOESN’T say, “I’m sitting here in my black negligee,
Doing nothing at all,
While I wait for your call.”
She knows that the poor SOB hears that tone every day.

She’s a pro and she won’t let him hear the relief in her voice.
She could use an all-nighter,
It’d make her load lighter.
Still, when he agrees, she breathes a quick sigh to rejoice.

She’s perky, she’s sultry, again she’s delivered the male.
She firms up the date.
She tells him, “Can’t wait!”
Her ass is for rent, but her heart and her pride aren’t for sale.
