While I can't comment on whether you should or shouldn't see your FB friend, I would advise you to reconsider joining Facebook. I used to have a Facebook account and cancelled it recently. I don't need any more drama.

Don't get me wrong. It's a great concept. Unfortunately, people use it to post meaningless stuff. But that is bound to happen when you are aiming for mass appeal. While the concept of Facebook looks good on the surface, it just does not gel with most people's need to keep their deep secrets to themselves. Old housewives and nuns could probably use it with little repercusions, but the rest of us better view it as a train wreck about to happen. One small slip of a phrase, or, heaven forbid, someone snaps a photo of you with a provider at a restaurant, and, WHAMO, the whole world can know about it before you even have a chance to say, "Check, please".

Especially if you don't hang out with her or haven't seen her since high school.  I always expect that day to come when I will meet with someone I already know in my civvie life, though not recognized during screening.  For those of us who do this long enough, it's inevitable to eventually happen.  I would be flattered knowing that so-and-so had thought of me in such-and-such a way, back in the day.  There would be no potential of outing one another, b/c it takes one to know one, so the leverage is equally proportionate for causing a shit storm.  You may someday regret that you didn't.
