The club environment began to grate on my nerves; the drunken jerks, the constant requests for sexual favors, the abusive management. But there were school loans to pay off, so I sucked it up as long as I could...until I was fired for sticking up for myself.

I eventually found "square work" with a Senegalese professor as a grantwriter, but had a lot of of extra time whenever he left town. Curiosity (and an adult help ad) brought me to an incall house, where I worked for a few months. A lady I met there introduced me to some old school madams. Things were great until Elliot Spitzer ruined things for everyone. The work dried up and agencies wouldn't hire me stating there was no demand for women of color.

After being told no by yet another agency, I decided to go indy and haven't looked back. This work suits my personality because I get to use my brain, my talents as well has have a bit a of fun!

That's new to me. You should tour DC then... tons of demands for all sorts of people here.

IMHO it's almost too multicultural. In fact, most surprising of all: I have never run into anyone who made a racial remark.... and I've been in the area for over 10 years.  Of course close friends exchange racial remarks constantly, lol... but that's different.

Tabitha- I recently heard about you at a gathering that I attended two weeks ago on "ESCORTS and INTERNET MARKETING". It was a great presentation and I heard someone mention your name and how you are creating a "niche" for yourself by being a "cooking courtesan" which is quite unique. I am so glad to have seen this thread and to have made your acquaintance! I would be delighted to exchange banners with you if you want to email me offline?

HOW SITARA DEVI LAUNCHED INTO THE LIMELIGHT-

Let  me take you on a short journey. Lets go back about 5 years to the year 2006. I was working in the BAY AREA at a job that my college degree had prepared me for but was losing my "mojo" and was totally un-inspired by the work I was doing. I decided I need to spice up both my paycheck and my life and decided to moonlight as an exotic dancer. I danced for a few weeks at a club and made some good cash and it was at this time that one of the girls mentioned "Legal Brothels" to me in Nevada. I had never heard of Legal Brothels before, but my interest peaked. I drove up to the Carson City, Reno area about a week later and spent a day checking out several different Brothels. Being Indian was really a unique thing and all the "houses" were looking for diversity so I got offered gigs on the spot everywhere I went. I was not ready at that point to start work but after a few weeks of thinking about the best fit for me I decided to try out a Brothel for about 10 days. I enjoyed the experience from many angles and went back a few more times through the Spring and Summer of 2006. Towards the end of the Summer I heard about Desiree Alliance which is a Sex Workers Activist Organization that was putting together a conference. I went to Las Vegas to check out the conference and had the good fortune to connect with a few "HIGH DOLLAR COURTESANS" who took me under their wing as they saw me as one of "them", educated, intelligent and articulate and as they were so passionate about providers keeping their own money I think the were really appalled at the idea that I was working at a Brothel although they were also very curious about it. As I was in the process of moving to New York City at that time, with the fact that I was moving to the East Coast along with the awesome mentorship of some of this industries finest ladies, Sitara Devi was born. I have to say I have been very lucky to have had the good fortune to meet amazing ladies and charming clients along the way. Five years later, I still love this work and am at the SFO International airport typing away after a lovely overnight date with a new client.

Aww! I'm so bummed we didn't get to meet! When I was a newbie to the biz, your site and marketing caught my eye immediately.

I'd always worked in customer service type jobs before, so in 04 when I divorced my husband, the 2 jobs, & now not having a live-in bbsitter weren't cutting it, couldn't make ends meet... I had a friend tell me about a bath house in town, I applied & was hired on the spot. Stayed there 8 months, but grew tired of the "assembly line" type atmosphere, & the low pay.. so I went independent, & have been so ever since. What a better way to make a living, then my love for sex & my experience with customer service:)
