Little Phil's rant made me wonder about a personal problem I'm having with spam, so I'm soliciting suggestions. Like many of us, my learning curve when beginning the hobby could have been considerably steeper. That is to say, I have made my share of obvious, dumb errors. One of which was using my normal email address in many forms of hobby communications. So now, I daily receive at least five spams from various cyber "ladies" that want to "tag up" with me at the nearest coffee shop or whatnot. I use MS Office's email program and I can't seem to get the spam filter to learn to block this shit. I'm just worried the wrong eyes will see one of these things some day, before I've had time to delete it.
1) Begin using different email addys to seperate worlds. If possible, close your current email account. Redirect friends, family, and escorts to the appropriate email account. Tell the nosy ones that your old email became infected with a virus.
2) Do NOT use outlook express for your emails!! Outlook express downloads emails to your computer and isn't difficult for anyone close to you with some computer savvy to access. Use one of the many online mail services (hotmail, yahoo, gmail,...).
3) Delete all cookies and web surfing history EVERY time you finish working on your computer!
SO or not, I recommend keeping you hobby life & personal life separate (Email & phone). Everyone gets spam solicitations from time to time... Absolutely, delete them. But if they are ever discovered by a family member, they are spam!! Don't make a big deal over it. I've never used my personal email for the hobby but I still get solicitations for ED meds & "date hot singles"...
Start new email for personal use. I use a separate one for credit cards, on-line purchases, etc. I call it [email protected] Then another for hobby. I change email addresses every couple of years anyway, just to leave the crap behind. No, I will not ship my used car to Nigeria! No, I won't deposit your check & wire the money out of the country! skb
