Silent partner?

Sorry to disappoint you HtG...but I suspect that you are missing some pertinent info in your post.  The taxation for an LLC (single member) is identical to that of filing as a sole proprietor.  If there is another member of the LLC then you would indeed have a Partnership return filed...yet the income flows through to your personal return having the same net effect as that of a sole proprietor.

I don't know what a silent partner is supposed to be in your case.  Either they're an active member or not.

So I would ask your CPA for a clarification on what (s)he is trying to accomplish...or you're trying to accomplish.

In either case your misnomer in thinking there is some magical tax savings using an LLC is pure folly.  However there are some CPA professionals out there that don't know what the fuck they're doing.  Perhaps you might want to ask a local CPA to review your return(s)?  Come to think of it...they don't have to be local  LOL

I was always told that a sole proprietor pays more taxes (around 38 percent in La.) and having an LLC saves you on that percentage, which is why most of us (even single members) do the LLC route. I know nothing about taxes obviously, so I am merely asking if this advice given to me, is true? I've never done the SP route to know if it made a difference. Can't you have a silent partner with the LLC, or would that automatically put you in the "Partnership" bracket?

I got a business license (mailed in, and mailed back out with a M.O.)  had my CPA file quarterly taxes for me, and he put me as an LLC. Should I be kicking his ass or thanking him? He said no one would know that I was the only person in the LLC, because another name was added to it, though that person never got a cut or had anything to do with my business.

I was looking through some provider ads (can't remember which cities) and saw a few that stated donations could be provided through CC, not just cash.  These were independent ladies and not agencies.  Wondering what others think of using credit cards, paypal, etc for the hobby.

especially if you are married...
PayPal will lock an account with suspected illegal activity & the holder may never get the funds.  Credit card charges can be disputed & reversed when the wife or boss demands to know what these charges are.
Cash is King!

I'm definitely a cash kind of guy.  It does make it easier and less complicated during the first few minutes of the date.  Plus no paper trail.

That's why I thought it was odd some allowed credit to be used.

I've used those. Buy them with no paper trail, and they take up less room if you get the gold ones.

There's someone who tours to NY (from PA) who will accept specie. Her website says,

i am also accepting gold & silver in lieu of federal reserve notes. you may pay exclusively in silver, or *established friends* may mix-and-match precious metals with cash (i also accept gold) -- contact me privately for such an arrangement.

a couple of notes: PLEASE bear in mind that these rates are subject to fluctuate. these are accurate as of 11/12/13. also, please make sure you mention using silver or gold when contacting me.

1 hr ~ 14 oz of silver
1.5 hrs ~ 20 oz of silver
2 hrs ~ 25 oz. of silver
3 hours ~ 1/2 oz. of gold + 5 oz silver
4 hours ~ 1/2 oz. of gold + 10 oz. silver
12-16 hours (overnight)~ 1 oz. of gold

I vaguely remember that she accepts pre-1965 (pre-copper nickel) US coins (dimes, quarters) that are pure silver at "silver value" not face value.  Boy, counting dimes could sure cut into the hour

I humbly withdraw. The rest is between you and ter.

Although I'm happy to turn over my research.

With the ire I incurred, good thing I have no interest in your white list or GLS inner circ.

Best to you though.

I want to preface this with I only read the OP and then responded.

I personally know that most of the forms of payment that easily allow you to accept credit cards, also come with many risks for providers. If you dispute the charge, the funds are often frozen. Possibly including other funds in your account if they believe that you are a suspicious vendor. This is my main reason for not openly accepting CC. Thus far, the only means of doing so that I have found - that also protect my identity - is if I decide to accept a gift card at the meeting. Or green dot before the meeting. Other than that I have yet to find a way to process payments other than cash.

For me, cash is king.

I thought about it a few times considering how easy technology makes accepting CC payments threw the square reader app available.
Althought, I really can't afford the paper trail to be exposed

PerfectStorm I love that picture you inserted. Great Lol!

Paypal as they can freeze your account if they find out
