Man you guys are scared of change and really serious about this.  Roll with it.  I could see a strong reaction if you're a moderator, because you actually put effort into the board, but the rest of you chicken littles, lighten up.  Pussies, bullies, and control freaks.  Jeez.  Hey btw, why am I on moderation, again?

It is a stupid stupid idea. Rotating mods is like going to work and having a different boss every week, or going to school and having a different substitute teacher every week. in the first case productivity suffers. In the second case you don't learn shit.

Another issue I have is with aliases. Only the mods can read behind the alias. and they only can read behind the aliases that post on their board. Now if you have this reotating mod thing, then all alias covers will be blown. I know there  are a lot of people who will be happy about that, and I am no tin favor of using aliases to attack people, but TER allows aliases, and has a list of some very good reasons to use them. Highest among them for me is protecting your review history (or protecting the ladies you have reviewed), when posting about certain topics. Also while there are are people who may try to use aliases to spread lies, I think a lot of times people use aliases to speak the truth, because they are afraid of being truthful under their regular handle and getting attacked. I think alias use will be compromised with "rotating cruise directors"

It is also chicken shit that that they strip a moderator of his duties, with no warning, and then they don't tell him or the board he moderated a damn thing about what is going on, then show up a week later announcing some dumb idea.

I have only been posting for about half a year, first signed on for vip in 04, but I have been reading these boards since they first existed, somewhere around 1999, or 2000. Truth is I don't see a hell a lot of difference. People complain that the boards are going downhill, and there is all this nastyness etc. but I remember the same shit going on way back then. I don't think it has gotten a lot worse. I do think it hasw gone in cycles, though. sometimes they are a lot meaner and sometimes they are nicer. The main difference is there are way more women posting now, which is a good thing. that has been another complaint. "We are chasing the women away!" And while I agree that is true someimes, and I like the women here, and we should all be nicer. I also guarantee you there are a hell of a lot more women posting than there were in 2001, or 2003.

The newbie board is very friendly. the over 60 board is pretty friendly. Some of the regional boards are mean, some are friendly. Different boards kind of have their own personalities. The general board is the wild west (although that has been changed in the last week) This is not a uniquely TER thing. I belong to, or lurk on a number of forums. Some others related to this hobby, as well as forums on construction, home repair, motorcycles, cars, etc. They are all the same. There are some cool people helping out each other, and there are some assholes stirring up truoble all the time. There are some old timers that go out of their way to help newbies, and there are some that say things like "rtff" (read the fucking forum)

Yes there can be some cliques, and moderator favoritism, but that also happens in real life. Teacher favorites, coaches favorites, bosses favorites, and on and on. The boards represent real life, so why would it be different. When it becomes a noticable problem then you kick out the moderator. but as long as they are doing a decent job, and most of the members are happy with the job they are doing, why move them? If TER is trying to crack down on the meanness, and favortism, then they could just give word to the existing moderators, how they want them to run the boards, rather than doing this stupid rotating thing.

Change is good. But continuity is also good.

Okay my rant is done. I have a letter to write to admin now.

Here's a taste of what's to come under my regieme:

this shit happens?  Since there's been no such announcement here I assume it doesn't apply to the GD Board.  If it does, I won't be around long.
As for ever being a "rotating mod," I'll just quote Gen. Sherman.  When it was suggested he run for President he famously said: "I nominated I will not run.  If elected I will not serve."
There are new rules for this board already and I'm fine with them.  But if they try to tame this board any further they'll squeeze the life (and the fun) out of it.  Most of the people who make it fun won't stick around.

Per Perfectstorm, the alias issue is going to be one of the most onerous changes, and

it has the *VERY HIGH* potential to turn out the true handles of hundreds of people in a very short period of time.

I use aliases occsionally, sometimes to poke good-natured fun, sometimes to ask a serious question, and sometimes to make a serious statement.  While I wouldn't consider very many of my alias uses to be vitriolic, I don't think I want my lady friends to know I was the one that posted "A question for the board: which farm animal do you prefer intercourse with?" (of course, that wasn't a real post, just an extreme subject for the sake of making a point.)
