I don't see the allure of a strip club.
I don't remember a VIP room at the Naked i. The (original) Glass Slipper had one, I think. They had a back room ... never dared to enter it.

2020 - 45 = 1975. That was around the heyday or rise to the heyday of the Combat Zone. There must have been at least 12 and maybe as many 20 strip clubs (not counting the theaters and smut shops) squeezed into a few square blocks. Jerome's Naked i (later, just the Naked i Cabaret), Pussy Cat Lounge (I think that was the one just across Beach St. from the Naked i), Teddy Bare Lounge, Two O'Clock Club, Pink Pussycat, The Glass Slipper, The Mousetrap, ... . The Naked i and the The Glass Slipper were the two clubs. They both owned the properties they occupied so third party landlords couldn't be pressured to kick them out. The Naked i went dark in the late 1990s. The Glass Slipper was able to negotiate some kind of deal where they sold their building to developers but kept their licenses to operate and they moved across the street to a new place on LaGrange St.. . My first time at a Combat Zone strip club, the Naked i, a friend and I just sort of slipped in with another group and we weren't carded or anything. We took seats at the bar. We caught the tail end of one very energetic act and the first two or three songs of another act (Salty Pepper, a svelte, pretty, not-energetic, just a stroller, black girl) before we were noticed and "asked" to leave the premises. There was a LIVE BAND providing the musical accompaniment! Drums, sax, trumpet, (+ other?) ... just a small combo, on the stage. . There is NO WAY you can make that meeting happen if you don't include me. And for the record, as lopaw knows, I spend a significant amount of time (and $$$) in LA Strip Clubs. I forbid it based on my total lack of authority to do so! . The dozen and a half clubs in a roughly 15 mile radius can offer virtually any menu you can desire - if you have the right resources, time and technique. We used to have M&G's in Atlanta in a "normal" bar restaurant, followed by an after party at a strip club. Now THAT is fun, a bunch of mongers with a bunch of hookers, many of whom who "play for both teams" makes for a VERY fun evening. Plus you don't have to worry about "trying" to get laid. lol
As for going to strip clubs, spending a fortune, and "hoping" to get laid, yes I have to agree with your assessment, but if you don't go crazy, don't think that you HAVE to get laid by one of the dancers right then and right there and you can control yourself, you can have a great time in a strip club, and even pull some great talent from time to time.
Now I am talking about strip clubs in this country of course, in many other countries strip clubs also double as wide open brothels, and a GREAT time can be had, guaranteed, but you need "local knowledge" to know where you are going to have fun and where you are simply going to get ripped off.
Some of my best times happen in clubs in Vegas, but after hours and after I have seen my date and she has adjourn for the morning. You're more chilled and relaxed and you don't come off as "Gung ho" or desperate. I go for the eye candy and just to relax. I don't do the VIP thing. A few dances here and there, maybe get a number or two. The girls sense your air of confidence and you walk in like your "shit don't stink" (It really doesn't so go figure..lol). It's hard to explain but they see you as a challenge and it's a different vibe. But I remember I pissed off some Israeli chick...lol

All the way over by the West Side Highway? Whereabouts? South, maybe near Murray St.? Midtown, maybe around 44th? A real fixed place with neon signs and flashing lights or one of those underground / roving clubs?

Hmmm ... Between Murray and 10th ... no clue. It was probably a GOOD thing I didn't know about it back then. It might have been even more time and money down the drain! . The "mainstream" strip club on Murray St. was all showroom downstairs but they had private(?) rooms upstairs. I never went up those stairs. Back then, I assumed it was all expensive champagne and no action up there.

Things are cheap where you are! (Atlanta, GA?) Up north, the bottle is at least 150. Add in tax and the obligatory gratuity to the host/hostess who carries the champagne bucket and seats you and the dancer in the VIP room, maybe 25-50. Then there is the obligatory tip for the dancer before anything even happens to cover her lost table dance revenue by being stuck in the VIP room for an hour, maybe 100 to 150. Now, after paying out $300 to $400, you can finally find out how much additional the bj is going to cost. . The champagne is the "fee" to use / rent the VIP room. Clubs can't say "Private VIP Room, $150 per hour -- towels extra." At at least one club, the host/hostess setting up the date would tell the customer that they had to BUY the champagne but didn't have to open it; they could put it in a bag for takeout. . NOTE: Is this info still correct? In NY and MA, a liquor license for a liquor store lets them sell full, sealed bottles and they are forbidden to sell individual drinks (except for those sealed one-shot mini-bottles). Likewise, a liquor license for an eating and drinking establishment lets them sell drinks to be consumed on the premises only and they are forbidden to sell a sealed bottle of booze "to go" (and probably even an open bottle of booze "to go"). If that's still true, champagne is either exempt or nobody cared about the rare case of champagne-to-go.
No clubs I have been in do the champagne stuff. No drinks required. I do my club time during the day shift. More laid back vibe to daytime. The dancers are more regular like a 9 to 5 job. Pay a straight room fee, tip waitress and bouncer, pay dancer. We already know what we're going to do and how much before we get in the room. But this is how I do it. I know alot of guys don't do it this way. I know guys get ripped off and dancers make promises they don't intend to keep.

and if you come home smelling like whore, most wives/girlfriends are more accepting of a guy's night out at the strip club than if you were boinking a hooker on the way home from work.
