The baby powder absorbs perspiration secreted by the lymph nodes in the groin. You could use something more expensive, but it's all the same thing. Even baking powder would work, probably, if you used enough of it. That will help prevent the irritation. And, of course, don't rub it. You know that.

I use an electric body razor on my scrotum and a razor everywhere else, followed by sensitive skin gel aftershave (Aloe based).  Gotten too many razor nicks trying to do my balls with a blade, and my regular has a hair thing and won't shave me (although she does even more gross grooming tasks without me even asking and seems to enjoy it).  Also I trim back any abdominal and inner leg hair that is near my junk to 1/4" or so.
The problem that I still run into is that I like to go deep and grind, and if I shave right around the base of my dick, the stubble (even 2 hours after the razor) acts like sandpaper on her and she'll be too sore for round 2.  So I've let that grow out enough that it's not pokey and that works well (1/8" - 1/4").

Could never have done medical school. Although when something actually happens, I usually keep calm and do what has to be done. But armpits and the groin get very sweaty because that's close to the source. I suspect that if the sweat isn't absorbed that it can irritate.
