I prefer a short trim. Shaving can cause bumps and things that can look scarier then they are which can interfere with the quality of service one can expect from myself...if it is unidentifiable I always err on the side of caution...the long stuff can get stuck in places that can make one AACCCKKK!! alot and also get caught in the protection and pull which I cannot imagine feels good. Whenever I have shaved my groin area, it stays itchy for weeks. Do you actually shave...or do you use a scissor? I have heard the latter does not cause the itch.
