GG encouraged me to move this from the Legal Board (Which almost no one is looking at these days) to this increasingly more active board.
Read the article and see what your thoughts are. I think that the best thing is to let escorts into strip clubs. It could be a win/win for everyone. However, if we say that there is a right to avoid legal problems, then should the law have the right to discriminate against all women because some of them may be escorts? I say no. If there is a problem, then police is and bag the ones that start to openly solicit. A few undercover cops ought to to the trick. It's a slippery slope when you try to banish the rights of one group for a so-called "good" reason. Before you know it you are discriminating helter-skelter to make society better, but better for whom? In any case, as i always close in these situations: Still not a lawyer.
Because it's based on a presumption about why the women are there to begin with. In the case of this board, there's a long-time female member (Lopaw) who cruises strip clubs looking for women. I also know of straight women who like to go to strip clubs just for fun as a "girls' night out." There's no reason they should be excluded because of an incorrect presumption about why they're there.
There have been numerous lawsuits over the past few years about this type of thing, and up until the case in question all the plaintiffs won. Some settled out of court, and some went to trial. The bottom line is that barring a person from entering a public accommodation based solely on gender is a blatant violation of civil rights law dating back to the Unruh Civil Rights Act of 1964. Gender is a protected class. A public business cannot bar an entire group of people based on what they fear they MIGHT do. It is so illegal it's absurd, and to think that a judge didn't acknowledge that is incredibly irresponsible and infuriating. I have a strong feeling this case is far from over.
The only reason that this type of discrimination continues is because most women who have encountered it don't follow up and pursue legal action. Obviously that has changed, and I;d expect more lawsuits to happen. And rightly so.
Sweetie....call your local legislator and tell them you want them to write a bill/sponsor a bill/support a bill for the FULL decriminalization of all adult consensual sex work. This is the only way to get the ball rolling.
The Rachael's in W. Palm is one of my favorite places. Great steak and wonderful scenery. It will be interesting to see how this develops. An obvious threat us that unaccompanied women might compete with the girls who work at Rachael's. Had a good pair of Brooks Brothers khakis wrecked there. Lipstick all over the crotch of the pants. Darn..
