TER General Board

Severely OT: Forum Behavior

A couple of years ago, TER went through an upgrade of their forum software, which changed the way forum threads were displayed. Some liked it, most hated it, and now the forums went back to the way they used to be.

Does anyone recall the issue, and are their threads that I can look at to refresh my memory?

The reason I ask is because TER forums behave differently than every other forum I follow. Other forums, if someone adds a posting, that thread bubbles to the top of all threads, as the most recently updated thread. But TER, no matter how many postings, threads remain in order of creation. The implicatin is that for those of us not on TER every minute of every day, by the time we view a thread, the same dozen people have replied to each other, but that thread is now way down the list, perhaps  on the second page. Even if I was to reply with some stellar wit, no one would see it.

Why do most TER members like this style? It effectively "locks out" people who are not living on TER 24/7. Is that the goal

that trolls could continually cause a thread that should die to keep surfacing over and over thus causing general mayhem.

On smaller forums where there is less BS going on, the system of bring threads back up to the top of the forum makes some sense; but here I would have to agree that it would be dicey.

When TER had that system a few years back it was easy to bring a gals ads to the top of a page.

Now it works in reverse...most ads (on those regional boards that have life still) hit page 2 in a day.

Got rid of the shills  ;)

I read the tree. I click on titles I like...

I pick things up, I put them down.

I don't care how great a time some other guy had, shilling doesn't do a damn thing to encourage me when looking for a date.

Unless they want shill out the funds, so I can fuck their favorite lady.

If I had to guess I would say the city-data forums have many more posters than TER, but I'm not positive. They use the most-recently-replied thread at the top method. And they keep garbage off their system through the use of moderators - moderators clear the spam and other crap often, so regular users almost never see it.

"force" new conversations rather than keeping some topic alive far beyond its general interest.

Which brings me to a few questions... what is the longest thread?  who has initiated the most popular threads?  What topics generate the most threads?

and while we are on "what topics generate the most threads" I would also  point out that there are several topics which periodically generate threads, but they also generate the comments "this was discussed before...." or "how many times must we discuss..."  and I don't see either display menthods of preventing...

others post a response to my post!  Thank you, Mr Hound! thank you thank you thank you.

Dude, get serious, I take extended breaks from TER.  I hobby (at least escort wise, as I have gone to the stripper world and yes, I have sex in the champagne room!) with strippers for a multtude of reasons.  Are there gals on here that I like - you bet - but for a variety of reasons I do my stripper thing.  but yea, I think about this shit.  but then again, you do too!

I love technology. So it its easy for me to watch all of you like the dog I am.
I do draw the line at wondering how they make the threads appear.
Who cares? It isn't hard to look to the bottom to see the most recent post.
BTW. I like strippers too. Never fucked one.
But you have to give respect to the real pole dance... That is not easy, and it is very dangerous.

Except this forum is the easiest to read, and follow.

This could be both a good and bad thing.
