We rely on the internet for so many reasons, in so many ways. Work( in any arena) - Family- friends- email

What would you do ?

No email - No internet ! Argh!

I'd run around in circles with sharp scissors in my hand daily, making funny airplane noises !

I'd sure get a lot more of those little to-do items off of my list...

Would probably go back to reading books, watching more movies, get outside more, do some more cleaning and cooking. Thinking on it, maybe I should just have a couple "internet shuts down" days a week. Thanks for the idea, Ciara!

I would actually get more stuff done if it did shut down lol...

Probably get a lot more house work done and go to the gym and work out. The internet is convenient but it's not my life.

I just was getting ingredients ready for Shrimp Newburg and noticed I didn't have the seafood seasoning it called for. So I went to the internet, Googled it, and made it with all the ingredients from my spice pantry. That saved gas and I can never go into the grocery store without buying a buncha stuff not on my list.

I Don't Think I would want to live without the Internet.

And make millions. Of course I would be in my own pain, but I would try to mitigate it by visiting all the highly rated providers here on TER. (lol).

thair was not evan that new - fangled Facsimile machine.... that made printed material go through the telephone wire..... wasn't that a hoot.   why, back then = liberies had books in 'em  'stead of some 'puter terminal....

and as far as pics went, you didn't have to worry about no noob job takin your photo as you come outta the shower at the gym.... (with his phone no less) and blasting you photo across the planet (and then some) to some dude whackin off in India....

yea..... I would be soooooo lost.... maybe i'd even git my kids back

Catch up on some video games. And look for a local free paper with a personals section.

I'm in college, so I would be at the library for loooooong hours. I'd have to check out books rather than look up sources online. I'd have to relearn the dewey decimal system. I'd have to start my papers a month or two in advance (rather than a couple of days in advance.) I would be miserable and my grades would go down.

Socially, what would I do without myspace? *cries* I wouldn't be able to look up old boyfriends, friends from high school who moved away, wouldn't hear from my cousins and brothers and sisters much because hell, they don't answer the damn phone. They email and myspace really well, though.

I would have to go back to printing pictures up and placing them in albums. I wouldn't be able to host them online and share them with friends. I'd have to go to the store and make doubles. The old man at the photo printing place might have more to do than look out his window with a sad little face. Poor fella.

I would have to ask my grandma for recipes again rather than googling them. I'd have to read thick books in order to get that one damn quote I needed for school. I would have to learn by doing or at least by asking people in their field how to do things like changing a tire. I would have to go to the doctor every time I got sick rather than looking up my symptoms online to find out I've got the flu or allergies or something. I'd have to say goodbye to babelfish and either learn languages the old fashioned way or give them up altogether.

I'd have to say goodbye to ebay. I would no longer be able to buy everyone's Xmas gifts so cheaply from overstock or ebay. I'd be in debt every Xmas. I would probably never find another good deal on an amazing vintage designer purse unless I started cruising through vintage stores (which creep me out.)

My life would definitely be a lot harder...

Life without the internet??!! Seriously, my life would be absolutely different. I'm such a computer junkie. (I'm really hot for other computer junkies too )

I am addicted to the internet in a huge way. My house would be cleaner though if it was no longer a part of my life... LOL

When I went to law school, I brought with me a Tandy TRS-100 with 100k disc drive. Had a Model 16 with Xenix at the apt from my business that I closed to go. 1st day on campus, I pulled it out in the library and the head was there in a couple minutes and grabbed it and tried to confiscate it as a prohibited item. On threat of physical damage he returned it and I walked over to the dean's office to find out the scoop. The school had NO policy as to computers as no one had ever come on campus with one. The only computers in the school other than admin were Westlaw terminals that 1Ls were prohibited form using. The librarian somehow thoought I was connecting into the terminals.  The school had to develop a policy allowing them on campus but they were not allowed into the classroom until my last year. The big joke was that as a CPA I was an early adoptor of computer research and had a Westlaw subscription that I had kept and simply went home nightly, plugging in the 8" Westlaw disc, hooked up the fast 300 baud modem and did my research.  However, I did spend long hours and sometimes overnight, though the library was closed in there doing work and research.

Today, years later, I see a decline in quality of research and it seems to be related to web research and a lack of the depth and cross-referencing being done. I think it would be good for at least some time or classes, computer research be not allowed to develop the necessary skills. Sometimes a rubber doll just can not make up for the personal real thing.
