I'm wondering if there are any medicines one should avoid in order not to "spoil the fun"... like they have the opposite effect of Viagra.

Anyone?  Dr Joe?

There is a long list of prescribed medications to avoid including nitrates and many antibiotics.  Over the counter drugs listed include: Yohimbe, niacin, and --ready for this-- grapefruit which can inactivate Viagra, Levitra, Cialis.  I will research this really interesting question (I would avoid decongestants and antihistamines but these are not listed) and post anything else I find.

But I do take antihistimines and/or decongestants for allergies, and when I'm under the weather.

I just want to avoid anything that might make Mr Happy fail to perform, when it could be just as easily avoided.

I'm at the age where even a little bit of the wrong thing...

On the serious side, though:  I really hope that if someone is sick that they are courteous enough to cancel on me. I've already had a cold (twice) for this year. Even if I needed or wanted the money, I wouldn't want to get someone else sick. That's just awful! We have other lives and work too, so we don't want to be sick or get anyone else sick. Thank you!

Hugs,
Ciara

Then I would avoid the OTC medications containing antihistamines and decongestants.  These have anticholinergic activity (too long to explain and who cares) which can interfere with many functions (intellectual as well as physical) including sexual. In your case, grapefruit would be OK.

most certainly I avoid any intimate contact. No one wants to catch what you've got. Why even think about exposing them?

I've never confirmed this, but I have heard that when you go the ER with one of those Viagra 4 hour hard-ons that what they do to relieve it is give you a big injection of Sudafed.

I can attest personally that it's strongly anti-erectile.

I don't use it every day, but if I feel even the slightest indication of something coming on, I use a tincture from Herb Pharm called Golden Echinacea that kicks it out every time.  It burns like a mother, as it is serious grain alcohol based, but it works wonders.

Even during the warmer months, when I travel, just the difference in air quality between home and the place I visit can give me sinus problems.

However, during the winter months, between airports, pressurized cabin, taxi, hotel lobby, etc. It's a minefield out there.

Since I'm going to stop at the drugstore anyway to pick up needed supplies, I might pick up something from the cold & flu isle... but there are 100's of choices.

Someone posted below to avoid Sudafed.  This is the kind of advice I'm looking for.  Specific brands (or active ingredients) which might cause Mr. Softie to make an appearance at the party.

Thanks!

on a general issue...i do not recommend any cold medicine with dextromethorphan>>>as in Robitussin DM...it is a drug which can make people very very confused...and many have been taken to hospital by ambulance because family thinks something very wrong, and not from a "simple" cold remedy....avoid !!!
