A few months back, there was a thread asking for advice on email services and security/anonimity.

Basically, different folks liked different email services for a variety of reasons (hushmail, safe-mail, etc.).  I'd like to get in touch with the guy (or girl) who gave the story on safe-mail.net.  I believe they were at the time an off-shore service (Israel?).

anyway, if you're out there, I'd like your take on their recent "server update" and whether they still exist as before or have somehow changed hands...

just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me  (LOL)....

A friend just wrote me:

"A drawback to Safe-mail.net is that your IP address is forwarded to the email recipients.  That's not good."

I just verified this.
Ziplip and Hushmail don't do this.
Therefore they are preferable.

I can't tell how much content is in an email prior to opening it.

(I don't have a pay account.  Not sure if the pay accounts address that issue.)

I wouldn't sign up for a service for any monthly service. Credit cards, etc. are all traceable with a court order.

I had been using safe-mail through a proxy.  After the recent upgrade I could no longer use safe-mail with the proxy.  When I e-mailed support regarding my user IP showing, they told me this:

"About hiding the IP. We replace the user's IP with one of our IPs for users which send us such a request and a promise that they will not make any use of the account for spamming."

My e-mails now show one of their IPs.

Hello there,

I've been happy with Hushmail (in the past they had some problems with losing emails and such) and I would also recommend checking out Anonymizer Total Net Shield
